Sod's chances against Federer on monday ?

Wimbledon
comment on the article

So sod has proved his doubters wrong by backing up his run to the final at paris by reaching round 4 and the 2nd week of wimbledon for the first time in his career.

So now he faces his nemisis federer he lost all previous matches against him but i hope sod plays his best and we will see what happens.

I also think its relevant that in their last match sod was in his first slam final so he may have been more nervous than usual and a 4th round match is different like when he beat nadal in round 4 at the french open so its a different pressure than a slam final.

predictions on sod v federer

my honest prediction

Sod to play a great match but eventually lose in 4 sets

keep attacking Fed's backhand

-----------

Wouldn't work. He'd just slice it back taking the pace off it or skim it low. He'd need to get the ball at shoulder height at the backhand to cause trouble, and that just isn't going to happen on grass.

Federer has too much, is playing too easily and smoothly, to be beaten this year. He has alot to gain and is apparently on cruise control.

95% of matches that Federer plays in, he's going to be a strong favourite, and that will be no different against Soderling. Can Soderling win? Yes, because upsets happen in sport all the time. You could argue that the chances of Soderling winning are similar to those of him beating Nadal in Paris, so strange things can happen. You can analyse tactics all you like - simply put Federer will have to be at least slightly under-par, and Soderling will have to have one of the matches of his life. Unlikely, but in sport such things occasionally happen.

People forget that the Sod was serving for the third set when they met last year, and had a set point there. He also had a match point against Fed in Halle, also on grass. I rate the Sod's chances higher than in Paris, but still pretty small. I think he'll take a set with a very good performance.

I agree that at Wimby Soderling is playing on a surface more suited to his game than Paris on clay.consequently he will give Federer more problems to break his serve. But ultimately I believe that the immense variety Federer has in his repertoire, will enable him to break down his opponent's game. All the same Soderling is fully capable of running Federer close if the Swiss is not consistent on serve.
Frankly I am looking further ahead for possibly the biggest danger facing Federer in the whole tournament - I refer to Karlovcic,if both get to the quarterfinal. I saw the giant Croat dismantle Tsonga.... 46 aces/service winners with Tsonga helpless, most of the time just helplessly watching the ball go by, thunderous missiles launched from a height of 6 ft.10 at an impossible angle.
To beat Karlovic Federer,or anyone else would have to survive 3 tie-breaks and hope that the Croatian giant makes a few errors. Really it is not tennis as we know it!

though i would love to see GOAT add this title to his tally to break sampras record, but seeing his performance in the third round match,i can't stop fearing that soderling may be able to upset him.as a fan of federer ,though i would wish him all the best for the match.

Cant think of one good reason why federer would lose to that guy. He has just slaughtered him on his least favourite surface in france and will do the same at Wimbledon. 3 sets to love and it will be very very easy. Feds has no weaknesses and all his opponents are saying that.

While I think Fed was the best player I ever saw, his game is not back to its top following his slump.
He has looked great recently but in my opinion his backhand not the slicing return , is faulty and players know that.
He will have to work very hard to beat Sod. who has a very much improved game. The odds favor Fed and I want him to win but to talk of invincibility is a bit silly. Also I think his habit of losing first set must stop, he must remain focused and not repeat previous mistakes.

I think Sod has a chance on Monday but his interview after his last match wasn't overly encouraging. I'm a bit concerned he may be beaten before he arrives on court. He needs to go in with the same attitude as he had against Rafa.
