Live - Thursday's Confed Cup semi-final

Confederations Cup
comment on the article

After one of the great shocks in recent international football, South Africa will be lining up a second in Johannesburg tonight.

It is Brazil that stand in the hosts' way of reaching the final on Sunday, where they would meet USA, who famously dumped out Spain on a balmy night in Bloemfontein.

Can Bafana Bafana dispatch the Brazilians and complete the anti-dream final line-up? We're about to find out.

Yeah, Shaq is now with LeBron in Cleveland. Not that it will help Cleveland go anywhere next year. Shaq is old and very slow, the Cavs will continue to depend on LeBron. Alright time to leave work and head-off to Red Sox vs. Nats (baseball game...its like cricket only a lot quicker, more drunk people, and just as confusing to someone who has not watched or played it very often).

He has about as much chance as Trapattoni has of persuading Stephen Ireland to play for Ireland in 2010.

And considering Ireland aren't at all sure of going, that's quite a long shot still.

Lebron James is a better player anyway, I love that guy for some reason.

Now enjoy your baseball, same idea as cricket so not my bag but I still know the key players

Brazil didn't deserve to win. I hope the US teach them a lesson.

But more than that, I hope SA learn from this & keep building. It would be great for 2010 if they could get through a few rounds at least.

Oh and I'd like to see that "foul" again that Alves scored from. It looked rather cheap to me. If this is how the big teams are going to win their games then that's just a bit sad. (Not wanting to spoil the samba party though winkeye)

But the ref was a good one, so I'm sure he'd never have "gifted" them that free-kick. ok

Reading the last few posts, we might remember that host countries are suppose to get the benefit of the doubt from the referees as well. The foul that gave the free kick to Brazil I would like to see a replay of.

I think it was fair more or less just from seeing it live in the game. But if it wasn't, that would be pretty poor. As great a game as football is, to be decided on some plays is sad.

If one mentions basketball as I saw earlier, basketball is basically almost always clear and little is left to interpretation.

Football has a lot of gray areas.

Well of course, the big difference between football & a lot of other sports is that in football, you'll be lucky to get ONE opportunity to correct the score if the ref screws up. In basketball (for instance), you could get well over 100, so any bad reffing decisions become negligible.

Which is why football rules should be made more watertight. those "gray areas" or decisions left open to "interpretation" by officials will always create controversy.
