All the comments on here seem to miss the point that the rights to England away matches belong to the home football association. The English FA have no control over whom the rights are sold to.

ITV of course have the rights to England home matches at present.

At least Setanta tried to break the Sky monopoly. However, Im not sorry to see John Hume gone. Along with Alan (excelent, great) Parry and Guy Mowbray surely the worst commentator of all time.

Absolutely delighted, the FA sold their Country & supporters to the highest bidder. This was shameful betrayal of the English supporters. But dont hold your breath, the BBC are no better when it comes to the English.
Time for a total clearout at the FA & lets have people who actually support England.

Totally agree the FA sold fans up the swanny selling to the english haters Shi*anta so we couldn't even view our national teams games, just give ITV rights to all the games

I am in Wales and I don't get to see all my national games for free. Half are on Sky Sports.

Surely if BBC/ITV have to show national games then they should show Eng/Wales/Scotland/N.Ireland?

Aruably the best argument within this argument is it a national right to see our team play i mean all of the uk have to pay a tv liscence

Im a great believer in freedom
And that means as far as Im concerned every Tv Producer has the right and the freedom to screw dry the miserable working classes that dont deserve anything as good as foot ball It should be preserved for the rich At all costs the prices should be mantained if not raised so that only a minimum number of children can ever watch a match. They can be encouraged to wear sports strip at vastly inflated prices Over the last fifty years we have engineered the destruction of most of our playing fields and built houses on them
THis was important to protect our lttle darlings from injureing themselves in this teribly rough game THis is a great victory for the good peple who run our health and safty organizations Competative sports may scar the minds of our children we musy allow them to be encoraged to be pascificts for if we dont they will start to stab oneanother and cut each others throats I am sure with a bit of encouragement we could get thr Government to pass a law to make the kicking of footballs illegle WE could set up football free zones While they are about it they could go further by banning all sport It the working classes have the energy to engage in such usless persutes we could increase their working hours and help to reduce the national debt and help or poor banks to recover their losses (On the other hand it might be better to get rid of sky and the other leaches that deprive us of our football heritage.)

How much do the BBC pay Jonathan Ross?
They waste millions of our money - it's time to reconnect with the man in the street (and his wife) and televise national games.

There is no "incontestable right to watch your national team for free", and there never has been.
You either have to pay to go through the turnstile, or acknowledge that TV companies aren't charities

Easy cynicalyorkie1, don't split hairs! All I was trying to say was that I hope the BBC get the rights to the England games so we all don't have to pay out of our backsides in subscriptions to the likes of Sky and Setanta, and I think the vast majority of English football fans agree with the sentiments of this article without over analysing every word.

strange this, as a mate of mine had his drive paved by an irish company and they only did half a job before "ceasing trading in the united kingdom"
back to footy it should a right as an english man to see the national team free on tv and the fa should be ashamed for cashing in on the biggest (and best) english past time.
