Does anybody know when there are some English players playing and who is are best hope of getting through the first round or two? I tried to have a look on the Wimbledon website but quite confusing we have a guy named James Ward playing right now against Verdasco ranked 7th and its not even on tv

Guess i should have a look at the rankings if someone has a list can they post?

Thanks

Surely given that the tournament is played on grass, a surface on which very few pros train, practice or play and that it takes place in the UK, I can think of no good reason to attribute wild cards to our failed or failing tennis players.

In what way does this help their development?

Or is it yet another scheme to paper over the massive chasms in the LTA’s strategic plan for British tennis. (look!! 5 British men in the main draw!!)

UK players should be favoured enough in the qualies by the surface and by home advantage. Yet take a look at this…

Finals of the qualies. Would the first reader who can see the initials GBR next to a player’s name kindly email me.

Naomi Cavaday? Or are you being chauvenist and just looking at the men's draw?

You should ask what every professional male tennis player wants at XMAS and he will tell you one thing. NICE WIMBLEDON DRAW and how does that happen? You get get drawn in the first round against a British loser like Ward or Bogdanovic. Personally they shouldnt get wildcards on the off chance they win a couple of matches they will end up with more ranking points than they have ever seen in their lives without of merit of being there in the first place and secondly it devalues the standard of the competition when there is luck of the draw like this.

I was actually looking at the men's draw.

Yes Cavaday did win through a couple of rounds of the qualies before falling to an opponent ranked a good 100 places higher.

a grandslam is a 128 draw competition the top 128 players should play it should be like golf where winning a major gets you into the majors for the next few years winning masters series gets you wildcards into slams etc no more wildcards for local players

I know Goodalls just been knocked out in 5 sets but its near on impossible it seems to find out when the English players are playing and how they are doing assuming they are not all knocked out already <laugh>

I was thinking of heading down on Saturday if theres an Englishman to back however low the odds just as heard its a good day out on Henman Hill etc <laugh>

Always meant to go down but never have

I really should look up how the English women are doing too as sounds like they have a little more hope

Guess more people want to see the top 16 seeds or so than our own players
