Michael Owen and the Premier League

Championship Newcastle United

He may only be 29, and may have scored 40 goals for England, but it really is time for Owen to take a reality check. To put it simply, he's past it and is nowhere near the player he was and indeed nowhere near the standard required in the Premier League.

I bet Newcastle supporters cannot wait to see the back of him and his £100,000+ a week salary. Surely, the costliest mistake in the club's history.

as a wolves fan, im 50/50 about signing anyone of this calibre of player. would the other players look up to him or resent him. thats what the manager of whichever club he goes to needs to consider.

Really difficult one to comment on, personally i think owen isnt prem standard any more.
Such a shame that at one stage he was one of the most exciting young talents in the world and now he's riding the legend that was owen back about 5-6 years ago and still egging clubs to fork out the stupendous wages that if a very young owen had stayed fit through out his career would deserve.
A player with such low confidence doesnt belong in the prem, if i was owen id stick with newcastle and establish myself as a striker who is loyal and had the talent to bring a club back to the premiership.

Just In ! Pullis has said he would love to sign Owen. With Beattie attracting all the pressure Owen would get at least twenty a season, a no brainer really and as I thought earlier. Come on JM & MM, don't miss out.

Only 20 a season? Surely he must be worth at least 40? Mind you, he'll only be fit to play about 20 games or so, as long as he's not on a 'pay as you play' deal.

The problem with Stoke or Hull wanting to sign Owen is that he will demand sky high wages, personally I think that it would be too much for either club, and its doubtful his body is up to the punishment of top flight football any more.

problem aint getting paid sky high wages or anything of the like, just needs to go somewhere he will get service so can get the ""dismal"" 1 in 3 ratio back up to 1 in 2 or even 2 in 1. Villa is the place for him to go but Everton would still be good, just issues around his history for the red half!!

Put simply he seems to have lost his desire to suceed at the top level since he left Liverpool. His heart simply isnt in football anymore, hes more interested in Horse racing and if a top club does take a chance on him they'll be getitng a talented, but half hearted and injury prone player.

Hold on now...
the post was late in getting Owen's prospectus
to my pub side. We've just entered talks with his representatives. I'll keep
you posted.
