Pakistan - Sri Lanka

Date:
21 June 2009
Venue:
Lords
Competition:
Twenty20
Player of the match:
Shahid Afridi
comment on the article

So Pakistan silence the critics and doubters and have beaten the favourites (possibly after S.A/India) Sri Lanka.

Afridi peaked at the right time in my eyes, he lived off his reputation during his batting during the earlier stages but his bowling came on leaps and bounds.

When Afridi performs the crowd get behind Pakistan, and the players respond.

For all those Indian fans reading this, what do you make of it > Does this make Pakistan better then India ?

What were your views/thoughts on the Final, I personally didn't see it, but a much deserved win for Pakistan.

Well done - From an Indian fan.

India have a population of 1 billion, with roughly 100m people who have a 'european' standard of living. Cricket is also India's main sport. When you take that into consideration they are actually abysmal. They should be able to produce 10 sachins for every ponting, or 20 for every lara.
-----------

I kinda agree with this, but even brazil don't win the football world cup all the time and they are similar in having a giant population all obsessed with one sport.

I think if lots of countries played cricket you'd see india's talent a bit better. If every european, asian and middle eastern country played the game to a high level I think you'd find india constantly in the top 5 in the world whereas most of the other countries would switch about.

20-20 is at the forefront of commercial cricket. It is currently the post popular form of this sport and on this basis winning this cup was a huge success. However i still feel winning a One-day worldcup will be a better achievement. That said take nothing away from this 20-20 win. It was less of a slog-fest and more tactical and technical than ever before.

Wow.

Michael Atherton was right, Indian fans are the most immature.

Some of you are just ridiculous

SL were outplayed. Dilshan copped it under the pressure...rabbit in lights !!

He could have waited for an over and got him self together before trying to chase the bowling.

Afridi was the man for the big stage, he loved it and lapped up all the glory.

The dramma could have been better if Pak lost a couple of more wickets.

A bit annoyed with how as the match went on, Akram became less and less impartial.

Regardless of the results, I think India are in a very good position with their squad and I can only see them getting better with more experience of the pressure situations.

I think SA also have a great squad.

Btw, thanks offered by the players at the end should have been to the sponsors and the ticket paying public who bankrolled the circus smiley

As for the stats, you should possibly discount anything between 1990 - 2002. Both sets of fans treated those results with a great deal of suspicion. Long before Crone owned up and Jadeja & azzurudin got banned.

Prior to that, Pak were a better test side by a longway.

Since Gangualy took over, I think India have shaded it.

I think the ICC test rankings are a better indicator of the current ratings anyway.

;his bowling improved drastically during the Australia tour . His batting was constantly improving and he finally kept everything together . Don't forget he is a pathan .
