So today has confirmed our fears, Peter Clarke will sighn for Huddersfield. Peter Clarke states in the interview:

"The length of the contract at Huddersfield also gives us some security which is important as I have my little girl to think about now"

Which is why i am forced to think, what length of contract did Southend actually offer him? am i reading too much into this? because i feel that its a no brainer really to offer arguably our best player at least 3 years contract. I know there were other factors in his decision to leave.

Good luck to him though, a great player and all the best

My dad is ruined.
I'll be sulking over the weekend, Southend are clearly better than Huddersfield but Huddersfield have tons of cash and can afford high wages.
Good luck Peter Clarke :(

Good Lucky Clarkey i say.The man has been outstanding for us and he served his time (so to speak)by seeing out his contract. Tilly needs to get shrude in the window or we could find ouselfs in a sticky one. Apparently we are skint, theo doesn't look like coming back and our defence has a few holes in it.

If i win the lotto tonight i'll help out, but short of that happening i cant see us raising significant money to replace clarke and have enough change for the other postions we need to fill - im usually optomistic but i do fear for the future somewhat..... thoughts?

I'm disappointed i have to say though i echo those that say Clarke hasnt muttered "i want to leave" or stuff like that. Fair play to him, i wish him well.

Though i'm not angry with Clarke, i am disappointed yet again with "Uncle Ron's" spending power & ambition. I know i keep saying it but Southend really have been caught with their tails between their legs with all this energy (an money) going into the new ground when i dont fully believe its neccessary.
I have my doubts as to what spending power there is to a point IMO. I think they may have offered him two years or more at the Blues though again the money may not be there.

I hope i dont repeat myself thru the summer as i really want southend to get good players in & do well. Up The Blues!

Tegsshrimpers.

How have you come to the conclusion that Southend are a bigger club than Huddersfield?

We have better players,Stadium,Fans,History and Money.

I think you are just bitter about your best player leaving.

Good luck for next season.

They're just bitter because they suck on lemons and really want to watch Colchester on a Saturday afternoon in Essex but can't afford the bus fare. Sad thing is, the transfer fee will only stave off administration for another month or two then that will be it - Later Shrimps!

Tilly to er, you know, er, leave soon as well you know?

<laugh> PoE - they’ve lost Clarke on a free transfer! <laugh>

A 2.4 million loss to cover and now they have to keep up with their tax bill… admin is inevitable for the shrimps.
