World Twenty20 day five

Twenty20
comment on the article

Day five of the World Twenty20 begins with a pivotal contest at Lord's involving two teams of contrasting pedigree.

The ever enigmatic Pakistan, finalists in the inaugural competition two years ago, need to win by at least 25 runs at Lord's to avoid an early exit from the tournament as suffered by Australia on Monday.

Their opponents are the Netherlands, who may have been playing cricket since the 19th century but are seeking to reach the second phase of a major competition for the first time, having recorded their most famous victory in the opening match of the event against England on Friday.

The evening contest is not so critical in terms of qualification, with both New Zealand and South Africa already through.

But many people regard the South Africans as favourites for the tournament and their progress is sure to be of interest.

So can Pakistan win with sufficient ease to reach the Super Eight phase, and who has impressed you most in the event thus far?

Please send in your thoughts throughout the day.

nottinghammagpie may be different but lets not personally abuse him, he has actually stuck by his beliefs and taken on a full crew. Credit must be given to him.

My 'attacks' have been as you say 'global'. In other words not personalied, so it seems odd that people then respons with personal attacks back.

There is no need to abuse me with personal sleights when I have never not once done this tonight. I refuse to abuse back. I do have issues as you say, many issues for discussion and breast feedings is not one of them. My views are perhaps ' to the margin' but they are intended to provoke debate not hatred or anyone personal. Thanks to those that recognise this.

thank you eirebilly, for this comment. I am gratefull for this dignified comment. These boards must be about debate, provocative sometimes but not personal. I have been provocative true, and i have strong feelings on many matters. We must preserve the right to do this as these comments open up new areas. When I say things like ' those with little attention spans' etc' it is not to abuse anyone but to comment on what is going on out there.

So your comment is welcome.
take care

yes I did launch an attack on 2020 and questioned the reasons why some like it. Is this so terrible? Many critics in other fields criticise others for their likes and dislikes and question provocatively. But this is not to slight individuals per se. I have never critiicsed any individual but criticised an unthinking acceptance of a concept, 2020 that for me is there for cash and does not have integrity. I do not then assume such people are stupid as such but question only their liking for this form of cricket. I have a right to question and querry, it moves things along and takes us all further in understanding of different points of view. If anyone takes it personally then im sorry but thats not the intention. My target has been specific, 2020 and the love of it. One could be misguided in liking it ( in my view only) but more astute than me in other areas. All this should not be personal or taken so. Can we in future agree to accept this and not turn it into personal feuding. I wish you well.

I prefer T20.

Not everyone has the time to watch 5 days of unlimited overs cricket.

There is a reason why stadiums in a Test match are empty except for the old man and his Newspaper.

Well here's my report on some great cricket today.

I think 305-8 is good going considering we were 147-7 at one point. Fletcher played well for an amazing 96. Yes, the wonderfull county championship is back, at least for now. Well done notts on a challenging first day at the rose bowl. Oh is there some 2020 thing going on, some half baked game, yes, I believe there is but thankfully all that nonsense will be over soon. The 4 day game is amazing, the twists and turns, 2020 could never compete with the intrigue of the long game.

and yet no other country wants the long game- we gotta get non commonwealth nations into the game with exiting cricket.

which is happening wit 20/20.

one day nations like holland and ireland may get test stautus when they wont something substantial.

or would you rather a closed shop?
