Kuzzy, who beat Serena, should win the FO

French Open
comment on the article

Kuzzy leads 1 set to 0 as I write. She definately deserves the title more than Safina.

If you look back, it has always been that the conquerors of Serena who won the title: Venus(Wimby 08), Henin (FO, USO 07), Sharapova(Wimby 04), just to name a few.

So this time should NOT be any exception either -- the winner will be:

Svetlana Kuuznetsova

Yes, definitely, Kuznetsova deserved the title. Not only did she play the final better, but she also struggled with strong performances throughout the championship, as she had to face far more dangerous opponents than Safina. I'm very sorry for the latter, as I like her, but Svetlana deserved the title. And she got it.
I wonder what Serena ought to to say now, after her typically arrogant comments after losing to Svetlana, does she still think she is the best of the world and the rest are meaningless?!?

"...until today Kuzzy did not convince me.But today it all changed..."

Yes, however from your own words, until today you were unconvinced!
Sportspeople need many more supporters such as you Prince.
Win a Grand Slam or two and your support is overflowing.
Up until those moments.....DODGY!!!!

conosu2,

well, one has to earn my support, and Sveta did it today by showing she can win big events.

Jankovic will never do that. As for Safina, if she does not fix her mind in a hurry, it will be hard in the future.

But you have been wrong for all GSs in the past year -- as I recall, you backed Safina to win in FO 08, predicted 3rd round loss for both Williams in Wimby 08, Jankovic to win USO 08, Safina to win AO 09, and again FO 09.

So I am not sure you are in the right mind after such series of big blowslaugh

cheers

"Well one has to earn my support..."

I haven't a problem with that, in fact I don't have a problem at all.
I'm simply pointing out facts, helping your growth for the future!

Take Caroline Wozniacki.
You, princeSchadenfreude have consistently slated her mercilesly.
Naming her the appalling "Wimpy-Woz" and saying she's "heading for the south pole".doh
Since then Caroline has gained a top ten place, set to go higher.

When she secures a major, you may come across and give her your support.
I repeat, nothing wrong with that, however expect me to remind you of "how things used to be" between you and Caroline.

Dominika Cibulkova is another.
You really haven't had much time for her hitherto (as far as I know you STILL haven't).

My point is I believe it's good to support such players from very early days.
Michelle Larcher De Brito is a case in point.
I certainly would be embarrassed, if when she secures world number one and a major in three/four years time I say "where did SHE spring from ?"

I like to try and support from a relative beginning, though I must say Sabine Lisicki has caught me out, and now I'm running to keep up!
cheers

By the way, Kuzzy looked fantastic at the press conference, with makeups and nice write suits.

Never seen her like that before.

Like Jankovic, Wozniacki will never win the major!

De Brito is a different animal -- she is a born winnerapplause

By the way, Kuzzy was a GS winner five years ago. But by her own admission, she played awful the last year and even considered quitting the sport.

I am glad she moved to Russia from spain.

PimBo, I agree that sometimes the women's games can be tedious, all hard hitting, lots of unforced errors and a lack of the subtlety that used to be seen. However, Svetlana Kuznetsova has recently demonstrated the talent that she has. She won not only because Dinara played below par, but also she has a greater variety of shots and when she limits unforced errors (yesterday, she too was below her best) is capable of beating anyone. Please don't slam the women.
