Hope set to quit England

Womens Football England
comment on the article

Hope Powell looks set to quit her role as England women's head coach to take on the Football Association's newly created role of women's performance manager.

Powell has been in charge of the national team for 11 years and has led the development of what is now a high-achieving national set-up compared to the one she took over - a senior team on the wane and an embryonic youth system with only an under-18 side in place.

England go to Finland in August for the 2009 European Championships in good form with just one defeat in 14 games.

Will Powell bow out with victory in the Euros? And what do you make of her achievements in the women's game?

The Arsenal job has been taken by Tony Gervaise, a Scot who has been working with Vic Akers for the last year with a view to him taking over. He used to be Head of Youth Development for Scotland, which I guess explains the amount of Scottish women at Arsenal!

Hope Powell has done a terrific job for the women's game in this country, she would be marvellous as a Performance Manager above a Head Coach, I don't think if she moves up it would make that big a difference to a still improving England team...

Isn'y it starnge the ones against Ladies Football manage to find their way to the pages, read the articles then make a comment..or a grunting sound..its like a tv programme you dont like just turn it off or over..its like you..simple...Anyways my point to those who enjoy Ladies football/football a a sport..no money for the womens' super league maybe 2011! but managed to find £1.5m to pay off Brian Barwick...the Englands Men team took time out for the Ladies team at London Colney/Cappello wanted them there and of course the guys are well into the Ladies Teams and of course the England Ladies National team which puts the FA and some on here to shame being against there league and national teams/players.Well done to the mens national team. Mr Barwick enjoy your £1.5m...hope its enough.

Many years ago when I was still playing (before injury forced me to quit) I faced Hope Powell several times. She was by far an outstanding player (and a decent and very likeable person). She has obviously taken this ability through to the England scene and I've no doubt that she would continue to improve the 'England Women setup' regardless of what title/position she held (including the cleaning, washing, ironing and cooking as suggested by the idiot 'betterdobetter') laugh

Most so called macho men just can`t accept women`s football because it makes them look not as macho that women can in fact play football. Get a grip. Real men can and do accept it. wah

I think she's been in the job too long.

She should have been sacked ages ago. She should have won the last world cup with the players at her disposal.

She should pay for her underachievement with her job.

I care about Womans football. I play womans football and am in an England Camp. You cannot say that nobody cares because there are millions of people out here who play girls football.

I hope Hope doesn't leave, she's got them to 9th in the World. But then again. She could leave.
