what is wrong with the west indian selectors why do they pick utter rubbish and not the players they are picking they are blind to some of the talent they have

the current team

gayle yes a good player if inconsistant at times averages around 40 can bowl aswell at times

smith 30 tests 1200 runs at 25 with only one century and 4 fiftys it aint going to happen not good enough

sarwan great player there inform player against england in the last series great player

simmonds stepping in for bravo i guess shows promis at times gets out more often though

chanderpaul would get in any side in the world at his best best player in the world last year deserves a better team around him

nash brought in bats a simular style to chanderpaul he will be in the team for the longhaul a good decition by the selectors

ramdin a good wicketkeeper thats it really never going to score a stack of runs but can tie an end up for chanderpaul or nash

taylor there best bowler at times devistated england in the west indies at times has got a test century aswell west indies need him to be there johnson

benn i do not rate him i think there are better spinners than him in the west indies selectors need to open there eyes and give miller a chance

edwards has got pace but that over he bowled the other day was awfull why was he going at anderson so much unlucky that his team mates have heavy hands

baker no pace 5 wickets in this his forth test there are better bowlers than him and two of them are in the test squad

the team at the moment
gayle
smith
sarwan
simmonds
chanderpaul
nash
ramdin
taylor
benn
edwards
baker

the team they should have picked with bravo fit

gayle
richards
sarwan
chanderpaul
nash
bravo
ramdin wk
taylor
miller
pascal/raumpaul
edwards

this team would give them 5 respectable bowlers and a good reshuffel the bowlers need more pressure for places they arny being pusshed the batsmen well lets face it there isnt enough quality but they arnt utulising what they have

what they need as much as anything
a fielding coach they have dropped to many you would get moaned at a t villige cricket for droping some of those clangers there also doesnt seem any energy on the field come on west indies the series at the windies wasnt desered as england should have won two tests so sort yourself out and give england a proper contest next time you tour

Benn is a good player got KP today and has soo much variation, will develop nicely - Why don't the WI go with 2 spinners when Bravo is fit?

Yes, Silva, I come on here to talk cricket, but the WUMs just seem to get on my nerves, and I end up arguing with them....
erm
These days, I tend to spend more time here, which is a WUM-free zone:

If anyone is getting as tired of 606 as I am, they're welcome to join me....
ok
chelsea, Gayle is a more successful Test captain than Lara, Adams and Hooper. Why would the WICB change the captain, just to please some England fans who are outraged, because he dared to say he prefers 20/20 cricket?
whistle
Gayle averages jsut under 40 in test cricket, which is what Strauss was doing not so long ago. He has a better Test average than any other WI opener, so why would the Windies replace him?
doh
The bigger problem is the other opening slot....

Pickles, it took a major change in thinking for the WI selectors to pick ONE spinner!

Selectors can hardly do anything if the players do not perform.Other than Sarwan and Chanderpaul there is no one as consistent in that team.Edwards in bowling is the only competitive bowler. The team is lacking quality players.Selectors have stuck so long but none except a few Windies players have proved that they are international quality players. No wonder Widnies is loosing many series.

"Selectors can hardly do anything if the players do not perform."

Can't one of the selectors or maybe even better one of the West Indian cricketing greats such as Viv Richards or Michael Holding could persuade some of the West Indian players currently playing in the English county game like Pedro Collins and Wavell Hinds whether they would like to return back into international cricket with the added incentive that they would be offered a central contract and a guarantee that they will be given a decent run in the test and also one-day teams.

Things are not as bad as you guys are painted it....

You have to look at where the WI are coming from. A couple of years ago, winning a home series against Engalnd would be unthinkable, even with Lara in the team. Now, that's changed.

There are only a few vacancies left in the team, IMHO....

1) Gayle
2) A.N. Other (Simmons?)
3) Sarwan
4) Nash
5) Chanderpaul
6) BRavo
7) Ramdin
8) Taylor
9) Benn
10) Edwards
11) I think this should be a legspinner....

It is high time Windies solve there problems;be it bad selection of players or bad performance of players.

There's alot of truth in what's been said about the Windies' performance. At this present time, i was under no illusions that they would beat England, away from home.

But i thought they would've been more competitive than what they're showing here. One of the commentators on TMS was saying that they were having a chat with Sulimen Benn and all he kept saying was how cold it was and he couldn't feel his fingers.

To be fair to the Windies though, some of the other test playing nations would've definately struggled against England, if they played in May. Although it's no excuse for the lack of deterination and enthusiasm from some of the players.

I hope the selectors say goodbye to Devon Smith. As much as i like his style of batting, he is incapable of maintaining any kind of concentration required in test cricket. Lendl Simmons hasn't contributed a great deal in this series, but i like his attitude and composure in the middle. With a little more experience, he might be the opening test match batsman that we're looking for.

And Lionel Baker is just a harmless up and down seamer, would probably have his line and length in ODIs, but not in test matches. Taylor has been disappointing, but he doesn't look like he's back to full fitness, due to his inconsistancy.

We need someone who can bring something different to the table, whether it's extra bounce (Richardson) or raw, lively pace (Pascal, Roach). Oh well it could be worse, there's always Daren Powell...yikes

Yeah, I'd give Simmons one more series to get his act togehter, and to prove he's no Ryan Hinds....

I think Pickles makes a good point. If spinners are the ones taking wickets in the domestic competition, why don't we go in with two spinners - a lefty (Benn or Miller), and a rightie (Jaggernauth, Wallace or Brown)?

And I agree about the conditions in May being alien to most teams. When is the last time Engalnd lost a Test match in May?

Just to illustrate your point shiv, i remember going back a few years, when bowlers like Richard Johnson and Ed Giddins were going through batsmen in May/June, but not having the same success, later in the season, when the conditions were a little more batsmen-friendly and the ball wasn't talking as much.

Pickles is absoulutely right. We should play to our strengths and at this present time, the spinners have been our most successful bowlers. That's probably more due to the state of the flatness of pitches in the Caribbean. But it worked well for Kumble and Harbahjan for years on simular type pitches in India. Besides Edwards, Taylor and Bravo, there's not alot of pacers/seamers coming through.
