A third tier of 2nd tier quality

comment on the article

When you look at the list of teams that will be plying their trade in League One next season, it's sometimes necessary to remind yourself that this is the third tier and not the second.
I reckon the quality that will be seen in League One next season would put a lot of 2nd Tier divisions across Europe to shame.

There will be a MINIMUM of six teams with Premier League experience; Norwich, Charlton, Southampton, Leeds, Swindon and Oldham.
Should Scunthorpe win the playoffs then you can also add MK Dons (as Wimbledon) to the list.

With the likes of Millwall (if they don't go up), Huddersfield, Tranmere and maybe even Colchester and Bristol Rovers (not to mention newly promoted teams, riding the crest of the wave - just look at MKD and Peterborough this term), it makes for a very tight and competitive division.

Leeds fans know, probably better than any-one else, just how difficult a division this is going to be to escape from.

Good luck to you all (especially Saints - you never know; if the doom and gloom mercheants on the Pompey board are to be believed, we'll be in the Championship in August 2010, so it could be derby time again!)

May the best team(s) win.

As a Swindon fan I know how difficult League One is to escape from especially when you dwell in mid table mediocrity every season. The difference in being promoted or finishing mid-bottom of the table is stability. Thats stability on and off the pitch, I've lost count the amount of times Swindon have gone into administration and changed managers over the past few years and thats why we are still in this division.

We at Bristol had the money, the fans, the players, but found it very hard to get out of League 1. If your any good other teams will put 11 mn behind the ball and girnd out thre nil nils. Since getting promoted the openess of the Champuionship has really led to some great end to end games.

Good luck to all the league 1 sides for the coming year, may you all take six points from the Gas.

I think the Gas will struggle this year, big-time, without Lambert

Any reason why Crystal Palace didn't make it onto the article?

They were a classic example of a yo-yo team for a while

Ignore my last post, went back to the article and it mentions teams who have been in premier but also dropped to league one. I know Palace have managed to avoid that second drop down. doh

thank you fireypieters, for your clever satire of the arrogance of fans from the premier league who pay over the odds to see Ronaldo and Drogba fall over.

Leeds have been hit the worst. They were up there with man utd, now this is our third season in league one. Just shows that what happened to us can happen to anyone.

Is the plight of Southampton, Charlton and Norwich financial as well?

5 or 6 years ago Norwich had just sealed promotion to the PL! To join already established clubs such as Charlton and Southampton. What has happened?

Slightly different where Leeds are concerned - they were the masters of their own doom - overspent and over-sized egos from a club who STILL think they are a Premier League side.....
hahahahahahaha

ps do you own your own bar stools and gold fish yet ?

pps looking forward to another 6 points this season - bring it on (B) ell end boys !
