Percy back in the Springbok fold

International South Africa
comment on the article

After some calls on 606 to see him back in the team itself, www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A50813... , Percy Montgomery will be on the bench for the Lions series but only in a coaching role.

Francois Steyn's injury means his booming kicks won't be getting the once-over from Montgomery while a torn cruciate ligament will keep the reliable Butch James off the park.

Ruan Pienaar, who did the honours during the autumn tour, is only just getting back to full fitness after a lay-off of his own. He slotted four penalties in the weekend defeat to the Waratahs.

A youthful Montgomery, along with Henry Honiball and Andre Joubert, was responsible for the shoddy kicking that helped the Lions to a second-test victory in 1997.

So will he be able to stop those frailities of 12 years ago undermining the hosts again? And who should be trusted with kicking duties for the Boks?

Percy can ensure Ruan Pienaar and Earl Rose are 80% + kickers during the Lions series. And he will no doubt help the expected debutant at fu;;back, Zane Kirchner with his kicking as well, and of settling in swiftly in the Bok team.

This is a fantastic appointment by the Bokke !! I honestly believe that Percy should be out there himself. He could definately do a job , and his kicking would be almost 100% which may be the difference between the sides. Remember how good Jenkins was in 97...without him , the Lions would have returned to the UK empty handed.

Percy can no longer kick under pressure so hopefully for the Boks they have someone taking care of the 'mental' aspects.

What can percy bring to the Springboks?

hair spray, just for men, fashion tips, fake tanning...

Don't knock percy. You don't get to be the most capped bok and their top points scorer by being mediocre.

I'll miss him.
