England - West Indies

comment on the article

It may seem unseasonably early to be starting the first Test, but Tom Fordyce's live text for England's opening encounter with West Indies is up and running.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cri...

Tim Bresnan and Graham Onions are in, Monty P is carrying the drinks and even Chris Gayle has finally turned up!

But how will England fare? With the Ashes on the horizon, can they set out their stall, or might it all end in tears?

Do get involved and join the debate.

Don't know what the weather's like down in London but up here in the North the sun's out. Not that I claim to understand the vagueries of seam and swing, but doesn't bright sunshine usually equal runs, not wickets?

I'm in north London, and it's overcast, cloudy, and grey....

I'm even wondering if we might get some rain.
:-/
Light might be an issue, if it stays like this....

It's pretty dull in London.

shivafan - It's a learning process. In 2006 Sri Lanka bought over an even more inexperienced team, folded for 176 (or something) then scored around 550 following on.

(Admittedly England's catching in that match was worse the the Windies yesterday!)

It is possible to bat well at Lords. Windies could still win this...

<laugh>
Gower says it's chilly at Lords, and it's so gloomy they're not sure about getting a prompt start....

Come on England, 400 by lunch, then let's get stuck into them. Nice breeze, sun is shining, if England can't peform in these conditions then we should be worried!

sorry 110-4 in 21 ChanderPaul a duck and Swann on fire!

WI did well to restrict England to 377 after Swann - Bopara partnership and congrats to Edwards for a six for - well deserved

Swann has a good chance of being man of the match
