Last week with a rushed double diffuser Alonso, albeit due to his lighter weight, managed to do very well in qualifying. I reckon this week once the car is tuned, as has already been stated in this thread, he will gain possible a couple of tenths extra. He will still be slower than the Red Bulls and Brawns, but Alonso's skill and ability will more than compensate for that.

Canadacharles (U13870464) posted Apr 23, 2009 Obviously, there are too many people on here making predictions based on their own personal bias and favourites. There isn't a single logical reason to believe Alonso could win this race, or that anyone, in the short time since China could have improved their cars to such an extent that they could seriously challenge Brawn or Red Bull. Raikonnen is telling it like it is, when he says catching the front runners will take time and may never happen if they progress too, which is more than likely.

SportsAddict2000 (U8934034) posted Apr 24, 2009 Why do people think Alonso can challenge for a win? Are you mad!? He was only on the front row last weekend because of qualitfying on fumes as a transparent publicity stunt to keep people interested in Renault. I dont think he will feature much in the race other than to make up the numbers.
