TheIrishAndeson. To call my comment regarding Chris Cussiter being one of the two best scrum halves in the northern hemisphere "stupid" Is totally uncalled for. You obviously know nothing, or at best very little about Rugby. It sounds like you're one of the Bandwagon jumpers. Ireland win a Grand slam, and suddenly you're an expert on all things Rugby!. Stick to the Hurling Pal

"Irish back row of Heaslip, Ferris & Wallace
Ospreys back 3 of Byrne Williams & Bowe
Wales half backs of Stephen Jones & Phillips
Irish/Munster 2nd row of POC & DOC"
I like that idea of units.
The English front row could front that lot as well, although in fairness I think that Jenkins is ahead of Vickery at the the moment (On other threads posters are questioning Vickery's selection - I thought that he had his best 6Ns for several years last time round).
O'Connell definitely right for skipper because he is a fine player; little bit worried about him going missing against SH teams, so he will need assertive forwards around him, which might take the vote away from Sheridan.
Whoever they pick, they will have my full support - series is a great prospect.

blair has not been picked because he isnt playing well at the moment, so theres no politics in that.
as for cussiter, well im a big fan of him but hes not the 2nd best scrum half in the northern hemisphere. far from it actually. hes not even the best france. id put him ahead of ellis but id also put peel, care and stringer ahead of ellis as well so that doesnt say much.

i find it hard to believe that mcgeechan (having played for scotland), didnt pick scottish players because of politics. surely if politics were to play a roll it would work the other way.

i agree with you jon891, i think it is a disgrace that riki flutey is representing the British and Irish Lions being a new zealander. I think that was just wasps bias from mcgeechan. but their are much better partnerships in the centre without riki flutey in. Roberts and O'Driscoll would be the most likely. What do you think? I dont rate riki flutey badly hes a great player and a prolific member of any back line, but he shouldn't be representing a team which is the greatest of honours for any english, scottish, welsh or irishman.

"yes armitage w<ill be selected
byrne and kearney are not good enough imo
i have the feeling cipriani will also be part of the trip as jones ogara etc are not world beaters we need something special at fly half and danny is the only super gifted northern hemisphere fly half"

it's funny then isn't it how Jones and O'Gara got picked as well as byrne and kearney who are in another league compared to armitage and cipriani was left out!!!!

I have to commend the selection. There have been a number of tough calls. I do feel sorry for Croft. As for Jones - he is a shadow of his former self. There can be no complaints about the other 2 nations captains - simply not good enough or not in form. I like the selection in the back row. They have the pace of Wallace, versatility of Williams and the power of ferris. Add in Heaslip and Quinlan. I do feel that Jenkins and Ferris will be the men of the tour. We have to confront the Boks and there power will be key. Anybody who questions PoC as captain, I can't understand. Like BoD he leads from example and is as honest as they come. He leads like Jonston did and he is also a better player. Can't wait

i think that Johnson can lead the British Lions team better than Ian McGeechean and talk about the team that is abusive to my English and Scottish side and what 14 Irish 13 Welsh 8 English and 2 Scottish so there is about 37 of them but i would have said there would be as follows
Irish:10
Welsh:10
English:9
Scottish:8
or even ten of each so that will make it fare and there will 40 of them and there will be 10 of each nationality of Irish Welsh English and Dcottish but this line up is a disrace and at leats the Lion have the best of the best which are well only the English as they started the game of rugby and they are the best of the best and i wold even put in Lesley Vainokolo in for Ronan O'Gara and Jonny wilkinson in for Bryan Williams and put Jonny Wilkinson in Charge of the first kicking then Lesley Vinakolo of Captine and second kicker so he will get some points. cheers. cool. <DOH>. ale.

I dont think Pedro has got carried away at all. O'Connell is technically excellent and makes far better tactical and judgement calls than Johnson ever did. Let's not insult POC - he will make an outstanding captain of the Lions and the selectgion of him as well as the other players in this squad has been both insightful and inspirational. I shoujld think the Bokkies as changing their underwear, this is potentially a match winning squad. ok
