the game tonight

Manchester City
comment on the article

Newcastle fan by the way and I watched bits and bobs of the game tonight and just wanted to say how well City played. I thought they were awesome and all of the talk surrounding the future of Mark Hughes is nonsense. No doubt if City had played like this for the bulk of the season they would have been pushing for a top 6 finish. Was great to see the superstars in the Man City rise to the big occasion and you were unlucky not to go through. I think the future is bright for a Man City. With a few more additions in the right areas I can see City doing really well next season!

Cheers lads and good luck for the rest of the season!

Ok it was a rapid paced game but City to me just aren't quite ready for Europe yet. Thought Robinho was very average last night.

Hughes will be lucky if he gets to see the season out.

How come English teams always fail in the UEFA Cup? One winner in the last 25 years is a very poor record.

To be fair, in the context of the whole competition last night's performance is a bit rich of City - they finished the group stage with a poor result against Santander, were dodgy against Copenhagen (4-3 on agg I think) and scraped past Aalborg on pens thanks to Given. Playing a decent side like Hamburg away they were thoroughly beaten and though City shone last night and deserved a third goal to take the game into extra time, progression beyond this stage wouldn't be a fair reflection of how they've played in the competition as a whole.

Hard luck City, really deserved to go thru.
Though I`m a Rangers fan, I was at the game last night and I think the main thing that cost you was City`s lack of European experience, very poor centre half (Dunne) and a lack of strong physical presence (striker and midfield and Ireland was bullied).
Ps, nearly forgot, linesmen were really really awful !!
Pps, Thank you City, and your fans, one of the most enjoyable times at a football match ever. Mary D`s rocks!!

Heartening to read the positive comments from fans of other clubs. Hope us City fans can repay the compliments to you all.

The passion last night was amazing. Took me back to days of old on the Kippax.

Forget all the nonsense about Hughes, transfers and the like. Let's focus on what we good at singing our hearts out for the lads in blue.

Woke up today from a dream that they'd built a terraced end at Eastlands - now you're talking.

thought you guys were unlucky last night. didn't think much of that caicedo guy though, he took his goal well but apart from that he was wasteful and permanantly offside. guess hes still young but you'd probably have went through if bellamy was fit

city did play well last night however there were some poor performance eg richard dunne how stupid can you be to leave him on it was a gurantee he was going to get sent, also micah richards very disapointing and one of are best players this season steven ireland did not get into the game at all. elano, played brillant showed why he should start every game robinho and nedum also impressed me, and of course zabalete and kompany those to lads deserve a medal.

On Mark Hughes he needs to go on the 60 min mark he should of been brave stick petov on why not??? what did we have to lose.

In my opinion he needs to go!!!

Martin Jol was very complimentary about the Man. City FANS after the game. Is this in preparation for taking over as manager for next season?

Mark Hughes does indeed look a little puzzeled.
