No TV coverage for Froch v Taylor?

Judging by this article, it would appear the only place to see
this fight live will be online where you will have to pay a tenner for the privilege. Kinda funny that the Americans often get accused of not giving the Brits enough recognition, yet they are the ones screening this fight live and British TV is basically giving the two fingers to the UK's only reigning world champion. Disgraceful treatment quite frankly.

Easy answer why it is not on tv.. greed. Obvoiusly froch wants more than the companies are prepared to pay.I am sure if he wanted to, he could give away the rights to Sky Box office for free, then take a cut of the takings, but obviously he know's that there is not that much intrest in him so goes after a bigger guaranteed payday. Don't blame ITV for not securing the rights, How many times do they show up and comming fighters, through there early carers only for them to Jump ship once they know they can screw more out the fan via PPV. (khan, Calzghe to name but 2)I love boxing, but it is (now) a minority sport as all the big fights are too costly. Dug ther own grave greedy gits.

Having stewed in this some more, I think probably ITV felt that they already had a contract with Hennesey and couldn't really understand why they were being asked to pay on top of that for this fight. The ins and outs of whether Hennesey is the one in the position to sell it to them is probably beside the point for them: they signed this contract with him because they thought it gave them the rights to show one of our biggest fighters. I can understand why they would have decided that it was stupid to pay again.

I agree though that this will get shown by someone on TV over here.

The Froch camp are clearly asking for too much and wont back down from what they believe they are worth. As mentioned earlier, Froch could easily give this to PPV for free and take a cut of the profits. Alternatively put it on the ITV for free and get maximum exposure and he'll be worth a lot more next time should he beat Taylor.

If this isnt on TV it will show the Froch's camp greed for wanting too much money and their stupidity for getting very little exposure because of their greed.

British media used to say we didn't have the champs or names to warrant showing boxing.
Now they are showing their true colours. Fans of barbaric philistine sports have no place in the UK unless it's a cash cow.
No excuse for this. None whatsoever.

TV companies should pay for up and coming sports stars but they are not obliged to, that is the whole point of a free market competitive economy. If Carl Froch belives he is worth a certain sum of money, but no TV company is willing to pay it, he has 2 choices, lower his demands or go online, and I feel he has arrogantly chosen to go online believing people will pay because he is now a World Champion. Realistically he should've renegotiated with the TV companies, and accepted their best offer purely for exposure reasons only.

He obviously feels more money lies in the online option so good luck to him. He has chosen money over exposure and as World Champion he can do whatever he feels is best. For me as a boxing fan this is an unmissable fight so I'll be watching ardently as always from good old semi-legal online feeds!

All parties involved ought to hang their heads.
Best quote is from Sky who according to the Sunday people said they didn't consider it a pay-per-view fight and didn't want to use it as a normal Saturday night fight.

It seems Sky think Amir Khan vs Unknown from Columbia is Pay per view whereas a genuine world title fight isnt.

Just dont understand it as Froch vs Pascal was a cracker.

Agree that Froch's team should have reconsidered and accepted any price for the fight just to get the exposure.

This could be the defining fight of his career and yet no-one in the UK will see it and the American audiance probably dont know much about Carl.

A shame all round. I pick Taylor to win on points btw.

I see this still rumbles on. Really what where Carl and Mick supposed to do. He is the champion and his first defence is arguably that hardest one on the table and no one is willing to show the fight. I honestly cannot think that either Mick or Carl are arrogant or stupid enough to ask for totally silly money. They must surely feel though that as the champion making such a risky first defence he should got top money for it. If he does not he might not get the chance again...surely at Carls level now and stage in his career he should expect the big pay days ? If not now, when ? As someone else posted, it seems that all the TV companies are content to continue hyping the no hopers we have been saddled with for a while, plus some new ones post olympics. ITV seem content now at the domestic level and clearly want flabby Fury and over the hill Thaxton to be their boys ! Good Luck to Carl with the fight and the streaming of it....I hope he is annoyed enough to make the TV companies pay dearly when he KO`s Taylor in style and they start bidding for his next fight. Top marks to Hennessey too for turning the other cheek and getting his own thing sorted for the audience who do want to see it.

Completely agree with you completely, Carl Froch is one of the most promising fighter we have had in ages, I actually think for his division he will stay at the top longer than Ricky Hatton. Its a shame the public interest is not beign considered but like most pple have alluded, it is a free market! I really think this guy can take Taylor out but the one thing that worries me is Froch doesnt pay enough respect to his opponents and could suffer from one big punch.

By respect, I mean acknowledging that they are good as well and not going crazy like you need to take them out immediately. I think Ricky found to his own cost that Mayweather is actually a good fighter and if he had been a bit more cautious had the tools to beat the guy.

Looks Like Froch has taken the Online PPV route for this one. It will be streamed officially here: http://www.omnisport.tv/page/FrochVTaylor
