Tiger the man to beat

Masters

Cometh the hour cometh the man.

Despite being out of the game for 9 months Tiger is already laying down the gauntlet for the first major of the season.

This year's masters will be of great interest to assess how serious the challenge is to Tiger's no.1 spot.

Will Mickelson, Harrington, Ogilvy, Garcia, Poulter, etc be able to step up to the plate and overhaul the Tiger.

Well, I for one, would not bet against the Tiger. He has already seen off the Harrington challenge at the A.P. and the other players are falling away.

Would you bet against him?

Its not about beating Tiger its about beating Augusta national and its greens.

positive steve, I am merely pointing out that he doesnt win more than he does win so people talking as if its a certainty is just ridiculous.

Though I want harrington to win, I can see mickelson winning this week. He is driving much straighter and the rest of his game is always good in fairness.

Tiger only really won last week because his playing partner handed it to him on a platter.

I dont have anything against woods who is a great player but I think people need to get a grip when it comes to expectations

It's a brave man (or woman) who would bet against Phil Mick or Woods.

Here are 2 relative outsiders to get you thinking:

1) Singh. No not than one, the other one! I'm referring to Jeev Milkha (although VJ even with his dodgey knee is worth a punt too).
2) Cabrera. Angel's a big hitter and that could count for a lot at Augusta.

I think this year the title will go to whoever plays well around the greens and gets it close enough to single putt!

That said, I've got a fiver each way on Padraig.

Slasher

I don't think my article states that Tiger is a certainty.

I am also realistic with my expectations in that the other players will have to step up if Tiger is in contention on the final day - particularly over the back 9.

I agree big Phil was looking good prior to Bay Hill but failed to challenge thereok

Phil Mickelson failed to challenge at Bay Hill because he wasn't playing!!

Very wishful thinking to say the very least but could you imagine if Greg Norman won the Masters next week !!!

I would imagine odds would be about 500-1 given his age and how little golf he plays but my goodness if he did pull it off, crikey !! I know its very wishful thinking

It was a good final round last week by Tiger but he was helped by a crumbling O'Hair.

It was a very weak field with tiger the only player in the top four playing and only three out of the top seventeen in the rankings.

Of course it was a good performance to win only his third tournament back from injury but I think it is easy to over do it.

I have a strong feeling that Tiger will never be in contention at the Masters, a big statement I know but I will put my money on Phil because I've won enough on Tiger over the years.

All i want to know is who is the plagarising git who stole my sign in name? There is only one Nicktheslashermcgurk and its me.

I think Mickelson has a good chance at Augusta but I cant see past the God of Golf. I would love a Woods Mickelson final group on Sunday with Woods holing another monster snake at the last for a 11 shot victory.
