Live - Sunday's Premier League

Premier League
comment on the article

Will this be the day that Liverpool present their Premier League title credentials to the nation?

They can close the gap on leaders Manchester United to one point - but they must beat Aston Villa to do so, a side in desperate need of a victory themselves.

Prior to all that, European-chasing Wigan host Hull, and inconsistent Manchester City entertain Sunderland, by no means out of danger at the bottom.

Hope you've got your Mother's Day responsibilities out of the way nice and early.

Coolinterstar, you don't understand. Clubs like Liverpool don't understand the concept of "sacrificing" one competition for another. That's the realm of the likes of Villa.

Even Arsenal could not do that, and as LiverBirdMate pointed out: look at them now - in the CL quarters AND back in the top 4.

It's a question of attitude. If you're a winner in spirit, then there are no matches or competitions that you can allow to be an exception to that rule. And as long as you retain this attitude, winning in one competition is actually BETTER for your chances in others.

However, I want Liverpool to win the PREMIER LEAGUE a MILLION times MORE THAN the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, even if it means sacrificng the CL for PL.

I doubt that will happen becos Liverpool have a very good prestige in Europe and their fans are very passionate especially in European Nights but i believe many Liverpool fans want to see Liverpool triumph in the Premier League 1st and foremost. Winning the Champions League along with the Premier League is an added bonus like Man U in 08, Barca in 06, Porto in 04 etc.

I really hope liverpool dont fail like Chelsea in 08 winning nothing and Bayer Leverkusen 02 etc.

Winning the Premier League is better becos its a symbol of a true champions that tests the team physically, mentally, emotionally & psychologically through 38 hard fought games.

Champions League is 50% luck and 50% tactics and its a knockout format which has 2 legs.

Hope that helps but i really want Liverpool to win the Premier League.

19 years is too long for a club like Liverpool.

"WHY was that disallowed?? wasn't offside"

because Napoli scored it. By my accounting that is the EIGHTH goal WRONGLY disallowed this season for us.

I dont expect FIGC/Lega Nord to let us represent Italy in Champions League but this is ridiculous.

"19 years is too long for a club like Liverpool."
I agree.

But I think "50% luck" is ridiculous, re the CL.

The PL is a relay marathon that can only be won by a club with, effectively, 2 teams, so that already eliminates 3/4 of the table. CL games are always played against the other clubs' best possible 11.

And quite frankly, I have never felt the kind of peak excitement from a PL game that Liverpool in Europe have constantly given me over the past few years.

Maybe if we win the PL in the last 5 mins of the last match...? ;-)

Well done Liverpool, you are playing some absolutely fantastic football at the moment and hammering teams.

I confess i don't think you have that great a side but you are proving me wrong.

Napoli 0-0 'david beckham' AC

The Weekend Overall

Premier League - 10 Games & 22 Goals

Italia Serie A - 10 Games & 22 Goals

(Domestically - NOT Europe/CL etc)

AC are well and truly out of the title race and will have to settle for 3rd and a trophyless season.

Napoli point does not do much tho they did have a goal wrongly disallowed.
Couple of wins for Napoli could put them right back in to the European spot mix but they need to start scoring goals first.

Bye Bye Domestic football and welcome the International break. Just when we thought the Premier League race was getting interesting.
