hi

rugby sevens has to be included, its one of the best events in the commonwealth games, and nobody has mentioned darts, surely as an exhibition event in london 2012 at the lakeside or alexandra palace would guarentee full houses esp in the uk.
i dont really understand gymnastics and i really dont see what entertainment water polo is, so baseball and softball are going good as its just gives an automatic gold to usa, i like basketball its entertaining as its fast paced, football, well you are always gunna get decent stadiums so its a good money spinner, i thik equestiam is very boring to watch thats the truth i could go on, i dont thnk squash is that easy to follow for tv viewers and surely we already have too many racket sports, tennis, table tennis badminton and they want to add squash so 4 similar sports, they thing i like about the olympics is that you get to watch sports that are not on that often like archery and hockey

I think that sports for which the Olympics would not be the pinnacle of achievement should be excluded (so tennis, Football, Golf, perhaps Rugby 15s). And I would add my vote to excluding (or revising) those sports where subjectivity determines the outcome. Points for "artistic impression" are not a part of sport.

Indian Club Swinging and Tug of War have been Olympic sport and taken out of the games. It is interesting to see all of the sports that have been taken out.

These are the Olympics, not the X games. Some sport seem to demean the true meaning of the games and in other competitions, there are more defining events as has been said.

Back in the old old days, some Olympics lasted for 3 months. The earliest Olympics (of the ones that started in 1896 that is) did not even have people signing up by country but competing on their own.

Baseball, Basketball, Tennis and football should not be in Olympics. Rugby 7s, Squash Rackets, 20/20 Cricket should be.

Basketball:

Major sport with the country that founded the original Olympics, Greece, popular in Middle East countries like Israel and Lebanon, popular in Australia, popular in Spain, Italy, France, Russia, Lithuania, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, definitely belongs. It truly defines being a global game.

We see track and field and cycling are so filled with the use of performance enhancers, they'd be the ones to take out way ahead of basketball that is less subject to such uses and in fact, is less subject to cheating tactics like diving, etc. one sees in football.

There are some very uninformed comments on this thread.

"Baseball, Basketball, Tennis and football should not be in Olympics. Rugby 7s, Squash Rackets, 20/20 Cricket should be"

You appear to be starting off sensibly, but then you shoot yourself in the foot by suggesting 20/20 cricket! How on earth could you argue that be in but not baseball, other than little Englander syndrome?

As for saying "baseball and softball give automatic golds to the USA". Thats downright stupid. It's like saying we shouldn't have athletics because it gives an automatic golds to Greece.

I don't see why Olympic basketball should be dropped? Its the pinnacle of international competition (unlike football) which is the criteria that people seemed to like...

Cross country running and cyclo cross to be added to the winter Olympics.

Cross country running especially, would open the games up to less afflieunt countries.

Hopefully Football will be taken out as most of the supporters in all 4 associations do not want a united team

Squash should be in - anything involving horses should be out.

I think t20 cricket should be in. It really has captured the publics imagination and made cricket a much more major sport. There are two top grounds in london, and games last all of 3 hours. Bearing in mind that a hockey/football game is 90 minutes, and less countries would bring a cricket team, it would work out well. BathBart I agree with you on horses - its an isolated upperclass only sport and depends as much on the horse as the rider. Its like having f1 in there, except some people are driving fiat puntos and others are going round in braun supercars - not fair and no skill.
