Cosgrove has hit centuries his last 2 outing against club sides...has scored century in second XI and a couple of 50's
S Aus..don't want him..and are stopping him playing FC cricket.its nasty when there cricket manager says he has had an abysmal season ..but had a player or players, that couldn't average 25. he lost 10kg last off season

Cosgove has only played 1 domestic one dayer for South Aus this year.

He also has issues with his weight.

Good luck with him Glamorgan you are going to need it.

He might have his problems but I thought Cosgrove was pure class last time he played for us. Exciting player and nice guy too.

My 5 year old still remembers talking to him when he signed his bat a few years ago while fielding !!!

I agree with Andy - a great player on his day.

Clearly he has fallen out with the management in SA, so this is his chance!

having lived in Adelaide, been a Glammy member for 14 years and actually met Mark himself, let me throw in my two penneth worth.

The boy is young. at 24 he is the same age as ryan watkins and gareth rees. so a season "in the wilderness" in Aus isnt going to put his career on ice.

SA have issue with him as he was marketed as the replacement for Darren Lehman. When I was there (2005-06) he had already been put on an intensive programme of conditioning and returned with a solid season for the Redbacks. If he has let his fitness go, then this would not have gone down well at all.

When I found out Glammy had signed him in 07 I was delighted! He enjoyed his time here, he loves Cardiff and the fans and wanted it to become a regular thing.

SA and Aus have issue with him because they are unwavering on discipline (hell, any team that can drop Andrew Symonds for fishing has to be!)

My point is that he has potential, has recognised that potential previously, and is well worthy of a punt to come back. he adds dynamism where maybe we've lacked it previously, and of he can get his runs, he will get them quick and take the pressure off rees, maynard, powell et al who can play themselves in, nurdle and get some big runs this year

I still don't think we have got a strong enough batting line up. The top five will be:

Cosgrove
Rees
Powell
Maynard/Wright
Dalrymple

I don't think that Dalrymple is a number five batsman.

Maybe we will see more of Matthew wood with Gareth Rees dropping to number three?

Wood will open to start and Cosgrove 3 I think.

I don't think JD is much of a batsman whereever he comes in.Can't we have a non-playing captain?

Mark Cosgrove played for my local club @ Swalwell (North East England) in 2005 and was awesome. A huge array of test players (most in their youth and gaining their first experience of overseas cricket) have come and gone through our local leagues in Northumberland & Durham but 'Cozzie' must rank alongside some great names (including Wasim Raja, Courtney Walsh, Madan Lal, Jimmy Adams, Wasim Akram etc...)

I watched Mark bat with so much natural talent it was frightening. On one such occasion he took on a strong bowling attack in a match I watched with Paul Collingwood's uncle (Keith Collingwood). He opened, hitting 100 not out in a mere 12 overs - the ball being flashed to every part of the ground. Without being prompted, Keith turned to me after he reached his ton and said "In all my years playing and watching cricket (and including his nephew - former England ODI skipper) I have never seen an innings of such quality! Keith has a few years on me but this was just one example of the quality that just oozes out of Mark Cosgrove. Had he been born 20 years earlier, he would have been a stalwart of the Australian side without question. He is a naturally well-built bloke and keeping his weight in check is not easy. That said, he is a class act on the cricket pitch and a smashing fella too!

Glamorgan have an outstanding competitor in their side - I cannot see another batsman so naturally gifted within the county - enjoy him and support Glamorgan while he's there and you may just help the best young batsman to come out of Australia since Ricky Ponting get a firm footing back in the Australian domestic and one day international cricket structure!!
