Has anyone got any idea or inside info on who will be the Glos skipper for 2009? I'm not sure its goiing to make much difference to the teams performance though!

I could suggest that it's Ronnie James Dio because, he sang 'The Last in Line'.

Many other counties are yet to settle upon their overseas signing, several of those being in Division 1. So the chances are, we shall have the least scope with selection. Another consideration is the Bracewell factor which appears to have a negative view with most.

In reality he was captain for most of last season...nuff said.

Also......his form definitely dipped and he needs to be worth his place on form first.

Also....he is unimaginative in his approach to captaincy.

Also....although he occasionally makes the good catch he lacks manoeuverability in the field

Also....his attitude is questionable and often sullen. There was also his response to members following an incident in the field which I wrote about last year.

Also....I wonder if his reason for staying with Glos. was purely that he was promised the captaincy

Also.....oh, that's enough for now...

I posted a comment a couple of days ago which included an observation about the worst kept secret in cricket that Alex Gidman would be the new captain. Lydney Bob seems to have
much to say about the JB appointment so I am sure many supporters would welcome his view on the captaincy issue. Many would think this player was fortunate to be offered a new contract let alone as Captain.

I have respect for Alex Gidders and wish him well. My concerns are: How much will he be allowed to captain the side by using this own thoughts and idea(l)s. I suspect that the handle will be well and truly turned from King John's 'Royal' balcony. With the JB publicity machine taking the credit if all is well and the sugggestion of a 'duff' captain when things aren't going well.

Pirate makes some very valid points here.

Gidman captained a fair number of games last season and showed no natural aptitude for captaincy. He seems to lack tactical nous and didn't seem capable of motivating the team. He was rarely worth a batting place last season in CC2, never mind the captaincy.

I would have given Mish a chance. After last season, Gidman surely needs to concentrate on scoring 1000+ FC runs and chipping in with a few wickets and does not need the added distraction of captaincy?

Well, it was Alex's turn to be captain.

It's like a pub side, where all the posts are held in rotation. Perhaps we could reverse the batting order for the 20/20 games?

As a life member who has supported the county for over fifty years, last season was the worst I can remember, and next season doesn't look any more promising.
