Ronnie and Carter meet in the next round. I think it's about time Carter finally beat Ronnie, and I can see clear symmetry between Carter's current season and Selby's last year. If it continues, that will naturally mean Carter wins this week, then wins his first ranking title before underperforming at the World Championship. We'll see.

Otherwise, I think Robertson might do it.

Ding seem to develop a very severe twitch on the left side of his face during his match against Higgins. Could also have affected his game. If Ding had potted that red in the 3rd frame to go 2-1 up the outcome would have been very different.

Ok then guys, these are the words of an abolsute die hard ronnie fan who admittedly quite often sees with rose tinted glasses. I have never posted anything even approaching the kind of praise I really feel because I know how sick some people can get of it and I don't blame them at all! I just think he is magic and I forgive him for anything.

BUT having said that I actually think that today is Carters day. I used to think of Carter as another average joe "nothing special" snooker player who just does well to stay in top 16 but since reaching the world final last year I obviously realised he was becoming a real player who deserved respect.

As im sure you guys are aware Ronnie and Carter have done a lot of practising together and are/used to be training buddies. They know each others game inside out and i'd like to take your guys memories back to the NI trophy at the beginning of the season. I either the quarter or the semi ronnie met with carter and what ensued was a NARROW 5-6 defeat of carter with some absolute TOP quality snooker. One visit frames on boths sides, just exchanging blows.

I think carter has proved this week he is among the elite obliterating peter ebdon. I think he was a little overwhelmed (and also very tired) in the final of the world as it was the first of that kind of occasion for him.

Carter is no longer afraid of ronnie he knows he can beat him and knows he is capable of great things.

Ronnie is playing with a new cue, carter will be full on confidence and it will be carters day I think, I've really grown to like and support him.

Carter for his first title!!

I know Dennis Taylor raves about referee Michaela Tabb but this is the second time in a major competition involving John Higgins that Michaela had made a mistake only to be corrected by John. The Grand Prix last October when she misplaced the pink John need to whisper into her ear to put it right. Just now she called a touching ball again John need to correect her. I mean you can see a very doubtful look on John's face while the frame was being re-racked probably thinking "How the hell did she got the job?".
I know referees make mistakes but it is very rare to misplace colour balls and misdetect if a ball is touching or not by professional refs.

Definately not one of Michaela's better refereeing performance. Just now Selby tried to get out of a snooker but missed the red, the white was left in a position were it is close to a free ball. Michaela tried to have a look but could not decide if it was a free ball but John just got down and played it leaving Michaela moving about behind him still undecided. I dont blame John, maybe he felt he has better eyes than the ref given her howlers earlier. A good referee if undecided would have asserted himself, stop play to have a better look. It a pity Dennis Taylor hadnt noticed it or if he has didnt commented but he did commented in favour of Michaela spotting a glancing fowl on the black a little later but then I again I spotted it too watching it on TV. I hope Dennis Taylor stop patronising the ref because she is a woman.
