With Glen Johnson now back, we are on fire, passion, belief, desire and committment. From our performance this first half we deserve the win!

Belhadj is awsome with Traore, Nugent seems to be linking well with Kranc and crouch, this is an exciting looking team with pace, and balance................I am now excited about Sunday.

Hopefully we will play as well second half.......and push on for Sunday.

Didn't see any of the game only listened!, GJ sounded great, pace both sides, sounded good, hopefully we can take that into our home matches but make it a bit more solid away from home, Herman in for one of Belhadj or Traore?, important win, builds confidence, didn't expect a win and still don't expect one on Sunday, Pompey proved me wrong once can they do it again ... I hope so!, PUP

Ah, you lot are completely right!
Keep up this form and you are guaranteed at least tenth.
Tremendous match winning performances against the top quality sides of Bristol are great to show character and strength.

Can't argue with Johnson as MOTM. Great defending and going forward. He's developed into an incredible player. Campbell and Distin both deserve a lot of credit too for surviving the second half onslaught. David James - best game this season. Back to his old form. That save in the first half from Elliott's header was simply amazing.

Davis in midfield instead of Kaboul and that team has a good chance of getting something at Spurs. Who knows, we might even have a new player or two by then? Huge win tonight, onwards and upwards.

I think spuds will have their hands full on Sunday, particularly if Davies has overcome his virus. We have a superb back four, Midfield can do with a little strengthening to give Crouch the support he needs. Looking forward to Pompey winning 2-0 on Sunday, and Defoe missing shed-loads of opportunities.

Bristol City were totally robbed - they controlled the game from Start to finish - dominating meaningful possession - Pommpy needed, probably one of the worst reffing decisions ever make to get their first goal - after that Bristol City had to open up and they caught us on the Counter again.

MOTM was defianty Ivan Sproule from City - he was the best player on the Pitch, took the pee out of Pompy's left flank again and again.

If not for David James pulling out a number of world class save Pompy would of lost by 3 or 4 goals.

I don't want to rain on everyone's parade, but were you watching the same game as me? smiley

All credit to Bristol - they really put up a fight and didn't hold back at all. They were unlucky not to get a goal.

But second half we were the side under pressure, and first half was good from Portsmouth but I don't think it'd have been the same against a Premier League side (no disrespect meant to Bristol). We were decent, but I couldn't honestly say that we were 'on fire'. We did hit the post twice so were unlucky not to be further ahead, mind.

But we could just as easily been 1-0 down at half time as a result of Crouch's (unintentional) hand ball, and David James' incredible save to stop the ball on the line prevented us being 2-0 down and out of the game at the break. Second half, we conceded a penalty and again James did superbly. At times our defending was a bit erratic - players not knowing when to get it clear and we were getting lucky with some bounces/deflections in the box.

Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted with the win, but it wasn't as comfortable as this thread seems to suggest. The goal to settle the game came in the 87th minute - before that point, it was still pretty open and Bristol had the better chances of the second half.

A good win for Portsmouth, and it was needed, and I hate to sound negative, but realistically we'll need to do better in the Prem.

Or is it just me? :D

Wow, reading that back, it did sound negative - sorry! But does you see my point?

Incidentally, there were obviously a lot of positives - Johnson played incredibly well, and I thought it was good to see the Traore/Belhadj partnership doing so well down the left again. Nugent had a decent game too. I'm not all doom and gloom! winkeye

As a team we cant be blamed for a bad ref decision, unfortunately these are happening more and more. Full credit to City for coming at us and having a go. The positives for me are GJ came back from an injury with out a reaction, he transforms the team, and when he is in form and playing the whole team seem to be confident, especially Jamo.

James made some excellent saves and seems to have his confidence back, and saving the penalty will do him the world of good.

Traore is just awsome to me, his pace is so exciting to watch, I hope between him and Belhadj they can carve spuds as easily.

Crouch will be out to prove a point as will davis if he returns, and there might as hinted in Adams interview even be anothwer signing before Sunday........midfield perhaps?

After a run of poor results, we needed some luck, and maybe luck was with us last night, klets hope we can build on this, take the positives, learn from the negatives (not killing the game off and giving city to much ball) and take it to WHL and beyond.

Well done Bristol City and well done Portsmouth. What a great game. Both sides gave it hell and Bristol City were unlucky not to get a goal during the game. But it was great to see some Premier League opposition at Ashton Gate and I hope we will do so again in the future.

While Bristol City had the chances I think that the problem was we didn't quite finish them off. In the end we paid the price for that. Portsmouth have my thanks for a thoroughly entertaining tie, and I wish them good luck against Swansea.
