Adios Haydos

International Tests Australia

Finally the big man has decided to call time on his career.

His career can be divided to two parts: 1994- 2001 and 2001-2008
During the latter half he earned the name as one of the best and most feared openers in the world.Along with Langer, he laid many an attack to the sword.

The turning point of his career was the 2001 tour to India, where he scored 549 runs and came good when most of the australians succumbed to Harbhajan.

India seemed to bring the best out of him in all forms of the game.

The very sight of Hayden walking over to bat with the bat wielded like a sledgehammer, was an intimidating one.
His meditation in the centre of the picth, before the match started was quite famous.

Australia will miss a great aggressive batsman, intimidator, sledger and a slipper.

The world of cricket will miss you, Haydos.

Hayden was a great opener, although prone to some serious lapses in form over the years. At his best, he was a truly gifted cricketer.

I don't think this Ashes will be as good as 2005, some of the big names missing are just unbelievable. Both sides look vulnerable and this series could go either way.

England would fancy their chances because there are many weaknesses in the Aussie batting and bowling, even Brett Lee is struggling to create that fire and winning mentality left behind by McGrath & Warne.

Sometimes his arrogance was his downfall but then again, that is why we cricket fans enjoy watching these great players. Along with Sehwag & Gayle has to be one of the most destructive opening batsman.

Harbhajan may be an idiot, but Hayden is not the perfect gentleman nor are his team mates(barring the great gilly). Cricket is a gentleman's game, to be played in the spirit of the game. did you watch the last series against India downunder.... do I have to say more

Haydos didnt fancy another disappointment like 05 as his final swan song and the news Simon Jones is likely back on the plot as the decider.

It would have been a gross injustice for Hados to be measured by his failures...Dont forget he broke the world record and put plenty of decent bowlers to the sword, but age catches up on all of us and I am sure he didnt relish being on a losing Ashes side again and being rolled over by Englands rampant quicks...

Its a skill as a batsman to know when enough is enough and the applause he got as he rode around with his kids clearly got to him and he was most deserving of the aussie fans applause.

Part of a dynasty and retired at the right time for all concerned...

"the indians will always chat poo about him, but the fact is he will be remembered as a legend of the game!!"

He is a great batsman no doubt and as a cricket fan no doubt I will miss his batting. but I would like to add, he was bully and was not mature enough. Can I say all Australians are like that... absolutely NOT.

Good luck to Hayden in his retirement. He was one of the games best this last 12 years or so and the Aussies will miss him.
