Time to rebuild?

Premier League Chelsea

Before I start I just want to say that this is not a "spur of the moment" feeling I have just because of the result yeaterday. I have thought this all season.

Right, I feel Scolari must sell up to 11 or 12 of the first team players and rebuild what is a very ageing team. Here is my list of possible sales:

Carlo Cudicini - yes I know but he's on a decent wage and surely we should have a younger back-up (we'd maybe get a 1mill for him)
Paulo Ferreira - need I say anything? (take anything for him)
Juliano Belletti - again we need younger back-up (1-2mill)
Mineiro - yes he was just signed as short-term cover for Essien but still... (free)
Michael Ballack - I just don't feel he's worth the 125,000 or so a week (5-10mill)
Deco - not cuttin it and is in his 30s (5-10mill)
Florent Malouda - please sell him while we can get some money for him (8-12m)
Salomon Kalou - he's not made the step up and surely there is better out there (8-12m)
Didier Drogba - ever since the CL final he hasn't looked interested in the games when he hasn't been injured (yesterday esp.) (poss 15-25m)
Andriy Shevchenko - still a Chelsea player but hopefully we won't see him back (5-10m)
Claudio Pizarro - same as Sheva (5m)
and poss Alex - if you believe what you read then he ain't happy at the Bridge (8-12m)

I know that if we sell all these players we will nearly have to buy a new side, but that's what rebuilding is. And there is the problem of Roman not giving any funds but surely he will see sense after watching some of the recent displays!

And we could replace these players with some youth, like Mancienne, Sinclair, di Santo, Sahar, Stoch. Obviously we will need to buy some experience, as Arsenal have proved the past few years that a good young squad doesn't win you anything. But we will still have Lamps, JT, Riccy Carvalho, Essien, Joe and Ash Cole, Anelka, Bosingwa and Cech; all very experienced international players. And others like Obi Mikel, Ivanovic and poss Alex.

Also weren't guys like Frank Arneson and Piet de Visser brought in cos Roman wanted the best youth in the world cos he was sick of spending hundreds of million? What have we got to show for it? Stoch, Sahar, di Santo, Kakuta etc. These guys are 18-20. Surely they should be making the step up. People like Messi, Fabregas, C.Ronaldo, Torres were playing at 16-17. Before you say "You can hardly compare our youth to these guys" why not? Roman hired these guys for the WORLD'S BEST youth! And these guys were the reasons why Jose left - the most successful ever Chelsea manager!

Rant Over!

Sadly I agree with most of what you say - and most worryingly, Scolari seems bewildered. I also worry that when I saw Scolari at Q & A at the Bridge before Christmas he said he needed one or two players in January but now he says he is happy. I think the truth is the money tap is turned off and I wonder if Roman is going to have the stomach to rebuild or if he will cut his losses and turn his attention elsewhere. we could find ourselves on our once more... Let's have a convincing result against Southend...

The thread makes me laugh people are living in cloud cuckoo land 50 Million here 100 Million there. Chelsea fans have been spoilt and in these times with people losing jobs all over the place its obscene, Chelsea have a team of international superstars who are apparently now rubbish yet they were a penalty kick away from winning the European Cup. With a manager who was apparently rubbish yet took you closer to champions league than Jose!..... Please inject some sanity.......you have an amazing squad of players however its clear to see Drogba does not want to be there he was shocking against Man Utd a total disgrace. Whilst he was out Anelka was scoring loads but as soon as Drogba is back Anelka is benched..............Sell Drogba......Essien back and I think your not far away the age thing is a load of Ferguson rubbish

Chelsea's problem is two-fold, not scoring enough goals and letting goals score on them. This is how they can fix it quickly. First the midfielders have to take every shot they can get, weather they hit or miss. That will create enough panic and confusion in the defense of the other team, then when the shot is being taken the strikers have to rush the keeper to induce him into a mistake. They should keep taking shots for the duration of the game, keeping the pressure on the other team. Anelka is hot and should be started every game, Drogba's body needs every game to get him back in tune, start Drogba in center midfield, next to Lampard, Deco comes off the bench at 65 minutes to replace J.Cole, Kalu comes on the same time to replace Anelka, then you switch Drogba to striker. Whoever has the ball at the 18-yard box and has a clear shot should take it. A goal is a goal regardless of if it gets deflected or whatever. Every shot on goal should be applauded by the rest of the team, this will build team moral and all of Chelsea will be happy when the team wins. The more you shoot the more times you can score, the more goals you get, the easier it becomes to score becomes scoring becomes a sweet-tasting habit that the team will want to continue doing. Take shots Chelsea, shots for 90 minutes.

You can't sell all those players, it would completely demoralise the team. A lot can be said for team spirit, moral and building a system that works, look at Hull, who would have thought they would be in the top half at this stage?
The Chelsea back room just need to give Scolari time to instill his playing style, in the same way that Drogba needed time to settle at Chelse so does Scolari.
And roono9 is right, restart27 you don't seem to be taking into account this is not fifa on the playstation.
