With our British athletes having ups and down in Beijing what can we expect this season?. We have some great talent and with so may nearly medals Im sure things are going in the right direction for our athletes.

What do you think?, is British athletics going in the right direction?

Who do you see as our real medal hopes in Berlin and beyond?

The margins involved are tiny so much of this is guesswork at this stgae.

However the people I would expect to medal at the worlds are: Idowu, Radcliffe, Sanders or Ohuruogu, Ennis, Rooney and both 4*1 and the womens 4*4.

Those I would give a good chance of medalling would be: Dobriskey, Sayers, Mason or Oni, Sotherton, Danvers and the Mens 4*4

Those with an outside chance would be: Rimmer, Yamauchi, Johnson, Rutherford, Yates.

It's a fairly long list but at this point there is so much that could happen between now and then.

Good point Biggut, it it just speculation, but i think your shout of Yamauchi for an outside chance is pretty good. Decent PB and sixth in the olympics, she may just get a medal. Is there a marathon in the european champs, if so she has got to get a medal!!!

WC09 -
expect the usual suspects (current medal winners) to be vying for medals and also the 4x100 if they can remember what that "sticky-thing" is for and why somebody painted white lines on the track.

Other than that I would just like to see more british representation in finals - and that by performances not because other athletes underperformed.
Okoro has no chance of a medal unless:
a) she improves by nearly 2 seconds
b) 3 or 4 athletes under perform/don't turn up

If everybody turns up Sayers is likely not to medal. She is 4-5metres down on the medallists from Beijing. Although the difference between 3rd and 4th was only 38cm Obergföll had a mediocre day by her standards. Linda Stahl did not go so unless Steffi Nerius finally retires and the other germans have bad days and menendez doesn't return to form I expect the result to be the same with the possible exception that a different german wins Bronze.

Pessimism aside I would like to think we could get 1 girl to the 100m final (JK or MD).
M Rimmer and Okoro to make their finals.
Baddley/Dobriskey 1500m

I would like Ric Yates to have a good year but he would have to improve to 48.6 to have a possibility of making the 400mh final

oh yes and Martyn Rooney to not run like a muppet in the final after an excellent semi-final showing

I think Kelly has been a great heptathlete for Great Britain, but I feel she's had her day - it is now time for Jessica Ennis to step up and win Gold in Berlin and London

I can see where Jessica Ennis is going to reach gold in future but Kelly Sotherton has recently (in her training)"latched" onto how to convert any negative situations into strong positives.Kelly's recent interview in S.Africa indicates a change in attitude.Previously she'd not listen to any discussion that was dealing with negatives, that coupled with injuries & a kidney prob. cost her medals. This year will be a great year for Kelly AND Jessica.

ANY THOUGHT THAT KELLY IS A "has been" is a statement (by"Athlete13" ) without the knowledge that Kelly has an incredible ability, late? Yes, but Kelly is NOT too late. With her indomitable spirit AND change of attitude, she'll get to where she should have been in 2004...just watch !!!

Gold Hopes:
Radcliffe
Idowu
Ohurougu
4*400 Women
Ennis
Sotherton
Medals:
Rooney
Dobriskey
Sayers
Baddeley
4*100 M+W
Yamauchi
Danvers
Mason
Sanders
Plenty of others could sneak bronze and we should get 15 or more in finals.
Lots of those events could go wrong and we could miss out through injury and appearance loose half those medals.
Good Luck GB

I think British athletes will get 6-8 medals. I can really see that happening. Lets hope we can we are all behind you. You can bring the gold back to team GB. Good luck.

Andy Turner is our best 110m sprint hurdler who now has no funding from UK Athletics. How is he expected to compete without this?? He needs to train to produce the goods!! He truly needs our support, cheer him on at race events.!!

I fancy Martyn Rooney to kick on in 2009, thought he was really starting to look international class in Beijing.
