What type of coach is desirable?

International Tests England

After the recent fight between KP, and Moores which made sure that Moores would be thrown out as the coach and KP resigning as the captain made me think about what type of coach England can look for on a permanent basis.

I always believe that a coach should play the supporting role and should not over analyse the game. If one looks around the coaches of the other teams the Indian coach Kirsten is doing a good job as he is playing more of a supporting role. In the end it is the players who take the field, so it should be the captain who should be the main decision maker and I have to say that some of Moores's tactics like asking the quicks to bang it in on those slow, and low wickets left a lot to be desired. It was something to see the Indian quicks pitching it up and getting it to reverse and our quicks including Anderson who is a swing bowler trying to bowl like Holding!

I think Moody can be a good coach for England.

in my personal opinion i think that we should give the job of head coach to a man, who is similar to alex ferguson in many ways, greg chappel. He doesnt have time for pleasentaries. he gets the job done, both when he was a player and a coach. He will sort out the riff raff in the english setup. Get rid of any dead-wood and get the english game heading into the right direction in which duncan fletcher started leading us.

We should be looking to poach the best of the best in there fields.

Spinners - Shane Warne
Batsman - Brian Lara or Micheal Clarke
Pace Bowlers - Someone from South Africas setup
Head Coach - Tom Moody would be ideal would bring Australias winning mentality to the team.

I just fill we should start to adopt a burning desire to win with longterm specialists for certain roles.

In cricket coach has to just play a supporting role and it is not like football.

Greg Chappell didn't do that either with South Australia or in India and was a total failure, Buchanan is a lucky coach as he had McGrath, and Warne in their prime. Once Mark Waugh rightly said in a a team meeting after yet another session of over analysis by Buchanan that John I think bowling line and length and the odd bouncer should be enough!

Lets get someone who is experienced and tested at a national level, not an assistant coach who's superior was sacked..

A coach can't do much in cricket. It is the players who have to perform.

Of course, it has to be someone who actually wants the job. Moody and Warne, both have categorically stated they would not do it. Being the coach of the Eng X1 is not a safe job, since it is result driven. If Fletcher, and Moores cant get a thing out of the team, who else would bother? Being the Eng cricket coach doesnt look that good on the resume, either. There isnt a lot of cachet attached to the position.

ps. When approached about it, Buchanan gave one of his deep chuckles. No way on this earth, was what he said.

What a pile of rubbish! Being the cricket coach of any national test team looks good on the CV, especially a top tier nation like England! And whats the nonsense about Fletcher not getting anything out of the team, he led us to 2nd in the test nation tables and was at the helm during the 2005 Ashes victory!

Also why would you want Warne as a coach? He is unproven and you should not hire someone just on their cricket playing reputation as its foolish. As a spin bowling coach its fine, but other than that Warne should earn his coaching spurs further down the pecking order before any test nation should consider him as head coach.

I believe that Geoff Cook of Durham CCC will be the perfect coach for England, he is experienced in senior aswell as youth coaching, produced a world class star (Steve Harminson), has a great relationship with players staff and fans aswell he doesnt focus on one area of cricket like one day or test he focuses on both and made durham succed in both compertions in 2 years as head coach there
