Patel primed for IPL opportunity

Twenty20 Nottinghamshire
comment on the article

England all-rounder Samit Patel is set to play in the Indian Premier League after being registered for February's player auction.

The Delhi Daredevils are keen on Patel, 24, but the spell would need to be agreed by his county Nottinghamshire.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cri...

Director of cricket Mick Newell told BBC Radio Nottingham: "He would go with our blessing as it's a great opportunity for him."

What is your reaction to this news and could Patel be the first of several England players to take part in the IPL?

Will Pietersen, Flintoff and co follow suit?

WiStAhM (U13750020) - While I agree that IPL is a money grabbing exercise, your comment 'Little tubby gremlin' invalidates any opinion you have on this subject. Idi*t.

anyone averaging 45+ in CC has to be given some sort of run somewhere, and he's NOT a bowler! arghh! wistahm, you're quite similar to eastmidz, except you actually know less than him! learn something mate!

Why, Samit, why? This is seriously going to affect our early season form, especially if Swann ends up as England's frontline spinner. At this rate we're gonna have to play Wood and move Shafayat down the order; I was really hoping that wouldn't happen. Anyone know how Hales is geting on in Oz?

I am glad people have begun to realise that Patel is a batsman though.

WiStAhM....your pathetic...of course people are going to go where the money is but at the same time, I know for a fact that he has always wanted a stint in India for experience & playing with better players. YOU WOULD DO THE SAME!!!!....I doubt you would give it to charity given your attitude

Any player given the opportunity to play in the IPL shouldn't be held back. It's a brilliant opportunity to hone a players skills in a challenging, yet exciting environment and be playing alongside the worlds finest cricketers.

"Disgrace, he's only in the game for the cash. Drop him from the England squad. Little tubby gremlin."

It is pathetic small minded rubbish like this that holds back our game. I am a Notts fan and not best pleased he will be away, but this guy (I have met him and see his parents on a semi regular basis at the family business), has talent, passion, is hard working and loyal to his folks. Most of all he wants to improve and enhance his game at the highest level.
Good on you Samit if you get a team.

can you blame him for wanting to join IPL

would YOU stay in your current job, or go elsewhere for 10x the salary in 0.1x the time???

whilst still being able to honour your current job

It gives other people a chance at international format (have you heard of Yusuf Pathan before his Rajasthan exploits?)

If you were a cricketer, would you want you play with players who would barely make the England squad, OR to play with greats of the game (Tendulkar, Ponting, Dravid, Vettori etc)

Personally I think he is overrated.

What a fantastic opportunity. Hopefully Notts & England will benefit from his additional experience. Good luck Samit.

Like most Notts fans, I'd rather have him around but he's young and obviously it's a great experience for him (and the cash is good too of course) .. don't blame him at all though the selfish part of me hopes he doesn't get a team !
