looks like Steve Gibson is stickign to his guns on not letting any of the senior squad members leave this January.
I thought gary O'neil might have been a player we'd have let go but, seemingly not, to Portsmouth, for that fee in anyways, I'd have expected a bid in excess of the 5M 'Boro paid them for O'Neil.
Might be another unsettling tactic though! Hope he stays 'Boro will need him for the remainder of the season, good experience.

O'Neil is totally different to Downing's situation.

Personally Id sell him and use the money elsewhere ...

Im going to get shot in flames for this ... but Iv never really rated him ... he's done "OK" for us and no more.

Dont forget that he and his wife have failed to settle in the NE. Not his fault - he hasnt moaned about it or got a strop on - but I would still let him go.

We wouldnt get much for him in the summer if he demanded it then.

I'd be sad to see him go, he works hard, always puts a good shift in, but London_BORO said, he's only really been ok for us. Doesn't give enough in terms of goals or assists for me. The only thing that would stop me letting him go now is that we are a bit thin in centre mid, and it's going to be very difficult to replace him in January.

If we sold O'Neil we need somebody lined up immediately, otherwise who would play CM? Can't see him going after what Gibson said, plus I don't want him to I think him and Digard are our best CM pairing

It would be a terrible decision to let him go in january. Our Midfield is already threadbare after the regrettable sale of Boateng, Cattermole and Rocky.

Gary O'Neil while not setting the word alight had done well for us. He gives us impetus and energy in the midfield.

If he really cant settle we can let him go in the summer but if we were to let him and Downing go we would become relegation certs in my opinion.

Lordtommypompey:

It's exactly the same as what happened with you and Defoe?

Really?

How much profit did you make on Defoe?

And now you expect us to sell one of our better players, a regular starter, for LESS than we paid for him?!

I don't really see how they are exactly the same myself.

Offer us something that might make us a decent profit. Then maybe we might consider it. Anything less is a joke and Pompey know it!
