Can't see it occuring, Steve Gibson, Middlesbrough's chairman said none of their senior players will be leaving in January, O'Neil is one of Middlesbrough's most experinced premiership players although only relatively young, so he'd be in that bracket.
I'd say it would have to be an offer way in excess of the 5M 'Boro paid, or wait until the summer, and see which divison each team is in and organise a price then!

So who are the hypocrites now?? We get accused of "unsettling" Defoe and Downing... But the Boro chairman has said none of their senior players are for sale, and you go make a bid!

Double standards?

-----------------------------------------------
The difference being, however, that Portsmouths bid is a fair valuation of the player and an acceptable bid, whereas Spurs bid of £6m for Downing was clearly just to unsettle him. If Spurs had put in an decent and acceptable bid from the outset I wouldn't be as annoyed at how Spurs have pursued Downing.

I don't think Middlesbrough paid £5m for GO'N, I was under the impression it was £2.5m with various clauses, very honest of PFC to announced these details, I hope and expect GO'N to be back at Fratton by February, number 26 is all yours again now Sahar's gone back Gario, PUP

why why why are we NOT incresing the offer? gary is a class player and would fit back into our midfield like he'd never left!! storrie sort it out we need players of his calibre to keep us in this league no matter how big the price tag! we got £35m from 2 transfers and we can't up it to about £6million? disgraceful!

GO'N's a class player?, average PL at best, £6m?, i'd say a big NO at that price, and to think some fans would rather have GO'N a player who couldn't get in our Division One winning team over a England international like Barton!

We haven't got £35 million to spend!! I suspect that will be less than £10 million.

Personally, I think the offer we made was a little high and wouldn't want Pompey to make a higher one.

gario was only young back in that title winning team...not only that look at the midfield we had back then also...merson, stone etc. they were players who would not be budged.

also joey barton wasnt the biggest star back then either being a reserve at city. as much as i'd love barton here i'd prefer o'neil anyday because his work rate it brilliant and he is pompey through and through (despite being a londoner! lol!)

Your forgeting the class of Quashie?, not meaning to start an arguement here Nadir, and we all know GO'N Pompey 100%, but like Benji who would also die for the Pompey cause they aren't fantastic footballers!, they're decent, but certainly not £6m players, still as I said Liverpool 7/2 at Fratton, I say GO'N will start for us! PUP TAB&WA!

With that much money to spend I would rather have Benji any day!

I have to agree with those hoping we dont increase our offer. £4.5m was more than I was expecting for an initial bid and I think we should now look at other possibilities.
