Joey Barton

Portsmouth
comment on the article

Seeing as there are multiple articles about Joey Barton ( www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A45650... , www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A45657... , www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A45669... , www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A45676... ...), let's settle this with a vote, once and for all.

Who wants Barton to come?

Vote 1 star for yes.

Vote 5 stars for no.

Post and give reasons if you feel so inclined (I'd say no, by the way).

i used to really like newcastle and keegan for being a 'family' happy go lucky club.

i now don't care a jot for either of them or jfk since they backed barton.

they are now regarded by many as a miserable club who care more for money than appearances.

no club should pay money for a player who has serially harmed people, and failed in every '2nd chance'

if pompey do buy him, you will stop being the great overperforming club that everyone loves the fans of, to just being regarded as another heartless money-orientated club overnight... if you don't believe that, just look at how people now view newcastle when so many used to love them

I think its a good move. Barton has had his fair share of trouble, I think he's done with it now. He's a good footballer with a lot of passion - something that we might need a little bit of at the moment...

Did Nugget chin Defoe?
If he did that makes him a golden nugget im my eyes!
Can you belive Defoe wanted A 700k loyalty bonus as he did not request a transfer?
cheeky monkey!

Pompey have just unloaded one load of trouble, so would not want to bring in a replacement.
-----------------------
It's true that there are similarities.

Both have been known to take the occasional drink. However, whereas Defoe is famed for his clubbing and scoring more off the park than on it, Barton is a self-confessed alcoholic.

One drink is too much for Barton and has led him to less fortunate consequences. Just as it used to with Tony Adams. Pompey have given Tony Adams a chance, who in turn seems prepared to give Barton a chance. Maybe the Pompey fans should also give Barton (another) chance.

I'm all for giving the bloke a chance!, i'll never forget his cowards tackled on Pedro, or him blaming how he is now on where he grew up on Merseyside in a BBC interview a few years ago!, but just the quality we need in midfield, if this deals comes off I believe we've got a player for half his value, but as I mentioned on another thread yesterday, I wonder where this leaves our stand in skipper Distin?, big mates with the man Barton assaulted Ousmane Dabo, and was even called to give evidence against Barton in court!

It has to be said, he is more trouble than he is worth. Good points raised about his previous visit to Fratton Park when Pedro Mendes had to be taken off and his getsures to those of us in the South stand afterwards.
Will probably cause more punch ups on the training ground which should bring back some memories for Distin. Then get sent off leaving us to struggle on match day. Steer well clear hes a lost cause

i think joey will be a great player for pompey and will work hard to prove al you doubters wrong and if he did i will be fully behind him cos a lot of players i imagine wouldnt even have the guts to keep playing after al hes done but he does have the guts and i respect him for thaand hes still a great p[layer and would be a waste of talent if he just left football any way im all for the barton deal.pup.
