What was needed!

League Cup Manchester United
comment on the article

First of all, I'm not going to be doom & gloom about the result. It was one game & was only the 1st leg of a League Cup semi-final - hardly the end of the world, there's still another leg & it's at Old Trafford.

First off - everything Ferguson said was correct. We were lucky to escape with 1-0 & Derby deserved the win. However, Derby will be kicking themselves they didn't put more of their chances away having been gifted such gilt edged oppurtunities. They may come to rue these chances in the 2nd leg.

I think the result will have a positive effect on the team & squad in general. Hopefully it will be a kick up the backside & let them all know we're not going to walk through every competition no matter the opposition. I'm sure Ferguson will be getting the hairdryer out after that performance & reminding them they're at Manchester United & should start showing it.

As for the weekend I expect there'll be a couple of goals in it. Chelsea haven't been solid at the back this year & they're scoring plenty away from home, while we're at home with an array of attacking options. I'd go for 2-2 or one of the two to nip it 3-2, hopefully United.

Fair play to Derby, they beat us fair and square. I thought our wingers were isolated and left our CMF's with too much work to do. This ended up killing Scholes who was quite good for the most part, and then Anderson's passing went to pot.

Our defenders were great individually (vidic was brilliant) but as a team they were poor. i've never seen a set of players so scared to put a foot in. Every time someone got on the ball they just ran backwards, all the way back to the box! And it's not the first time I've seen United's defence stand off runners. The amount of times I was shouting 'MAKE THE TACKLE!!!!!' was ridiculous!

But fair play to Derby. We'll see you at OT winkeye

Indeed. Should have been 2 or three nil. A one-goal deficit is quite easy for Utd to overturn at Old Trafford.

Ferguson referred to this as a "magnificent result"! Maybe someone should check his chewing gum flavour! If Utd. had won 1-0, that perhaps would qualify as a "magnificent result."

Derby must have played well because they used more than their fair share of luck to get to this stage in the cup. Their last match against Stoke was a sham. Stoke had a goal disallowed and their last second penalty should not have been! All thanks to Rob Stiles.

Derby played a great game of football and with the same performance like that in two weeks time then manchester united will have a tough time getting the right result, lets hope derby and clough and keep up the performance

.............................................

SAF described it as a magnificent result in the context that he felt Derby should have won by more!! If you had listened to him he said Derby should have won by 2 or 3 so in that respect he was correct.

Man Utd were poor last night, no cohesion(up front)or sense of urgency. Fair play to Derby, they got in our faces and had a go at us. Got the feeling that our lads thought they could 'waltz' this one. Derby could and should have scored more. Perhaps SAF will spares the boys the hairdryer as they also may have had an eye on Sunday's game(most of them anyway). Could be tight at OT depending on Derby's approach but reckon that if we play the way we are expected to then we're in the final.

This makes for an interesting game on Sunday. I think Berbatov will be our key man, the way he played against Southampton was unbelievable and I reckon his confidence will help the team.

And we should have sold Ronaldo!
