*** Scrap the transfer windows ***

Premier League West Ham United
comment on the article

With all the media and press hype and the frenetic activity and dodgy goings on like players not playing to avoid their value being eroded because they are Cup tied do you think the transfer window should be scrapped?

The window means clubs can only make transfers during two transfer periods, one in January and other between the end of the season in May and 31 August.

Clubs can take advantage of the poorer clubs or those in a particularly poorer or difficult situation at the time.

Surely individual players cannot influence the results of the teams they join to such an extent that they help them avoid relegation or gain them promotion! or can they?

What are your views on the transfer window? Do you as a fan want to go and hide in a darkened room until it is all over in the fear that 'loyal' players will be sold even against their wishes or those of the manager.

Lots of tapping up seems to be the order of the day and the agents and press have a field day

Is it such a good idea?

We have managed without it long enough.

What do you think?

Couldn't agree more. It's a media frenzy with journalists and agents unsettling players for their own personal gains whether that be either column inches in the daily rag or a big pay day after their unscrupulous cut.! Gid rid now!grr

I hate the Jan transfer window.
It over inflates players value´s and as you said the tapping up in the media,is now beyond belief.

The only thing its good for is, it lets lazy journo´s sell their chip papers.

It should be outed.

As much as I hate the transfer window, the alternative is transfers throughout the season, with the resultant never-ending Press speculation.

The only solution for me would be to limit all transfers to the close season, as the Press always have a field day at that time of the year regardless... ok

"Surely individual players cannot influence the results of the teams they join to such an extent that they help them avoid relegation or gain them promotion! or can they?"

I would suggest you speak to a certain Lord Griffiths on this one, he has very definate opinions.

"Lots of tapping up seems to be the order of the day and the agents and press have a field day." Alway happen in the past anyway, so no change there!

"Clubs can take advantage of the poorer clubs or those in a particularly poorer or difficult situation at the time." See last answer to that one.

I think going back to a contnuous window would be a mistake, if a club is desperate for a player, the others will overinflate the price anyway, its supply and demand. Perhaps another option would be to have the window from June to December.

Onme

the remark about individual players influencing things was tongue in cheek mate

Didn't think I could leave that out

Perhaps we should have a 'Defoe window' as well or a revolving door system for him

Has he been announced too soon and broken the ruiles though?

I'm all for scrapping the transfer window, I'm sure we only introduced it to fit in with UEFA. I liked the old system, I'm sure some of the inflated prices we're seeing is a result of panic buying n windows.

I do like the idea of a Defoe window however laugh

PS thanks for drinks Woosie ale
