NO DEALS IN JANUARY

Premier League Liverpool

To put a few of you at ease with some of the rumours surrounding the likes of Emile heskey and other such deals being done this month.

Normal practice for this type of window is for rafa to be looking at deals as far back as november, this is when we will start to move for players, but at the moment the players identified for the summer are tied up and clubs are not really willing to play ball.

At the moment, the only likely deals will be players leving such as Voronin and Pennant, who we would only really get about 5m for the pair going. Our scouts are working overtime and it was thought we were looking to perhaps bring in jakub Blaszczykowski from borussia dortmund with the money raised, however, benitez would rather wait until the summer when he will have more money at his disposal to move for some higher targets.

It is also worth mentioning that the linking of Heskey for 4m and Owen, is absurd, although i have sources who are adament that we will look to sign Owen on a free in the summer and then replace Dirk kuyt 8m, thus using the money to sign a top class right winger, but benitez is certain to resist spending money now on heskey or owen when he could get them for free in 5 months time.

Although benitez has positions he would like to fill the squad is settled and beginning to play to the standard he wants, so unlike when agger, skrtel and mascherano have arrived in previous january's this time the importance of keeping things settled couldn't be more crucial.

The only signings we may see will be players for the future, but don't expect any world class signings.

Colonel, how sure are you that Kuyt will be leaving?

------------------------------------------

It isn't set in stone, but kuyt was bought at a time when we didn't have a torres, he was also bought for with a down payment from moores, because at the time we needed a poacher and a player who would work for the team. Since he arrived things changed with the new ownership and this then saw nando arrive and kuyt slipped down the order, he was now not the sort of striker we were after but benitez knew he could play as the wide striker as he had previosuly in holland and for the national team, although this was a quick fix and was mainly for last season, but his workrate and versatility made him very useful to the squad and benitez decided that with kuyt, benayoun, pennant and babel around that he didn't need to look as much to recruiting for the right wing as he did for the left wing, especially after seb leto was denied a permit, so he has merely delayed due to cost, we simply couldn't add quality in every area, it was more important signing riera than replacing kuyt, who does a good job.

It will be interesting to see come the summer, but kuyt is the likely man to go, he isn't a natural wideman and would fetch a good fee, if for example we got owen for free, then used the sale of pennant, voronin and kuyt we could have as much as 13-14m to use on a wideman and we would get a decent striker for nothing.

Who knows things could change...but that is the thinking at the moment.

In which case he would have been bailed in december after the incident happened, not january, with the knowledge that he would appear in court on 23rd
...................................
Ehh what are you going on about.
He got nicked and was charged then bailed to attend court you plank.

.......................................

Correct, but you stated the only deal liverpool would do in jan was the bail deal for SG but that was done in december...pratt

I didn't think we'd do any business in this transfer window, we have a pretty complete squad and a great team ethic.

Some might say that such and such player is better, maybe so, but not for LFC. We have a team now, where each player knows their responsibility within the team.

It would be hard to integrate someone into the team and teach them the positional responsibility they need to have in a short space of time, and at such a crucial time. This is why i didnt think we'd go for Glen Johnson.

I reckon Heskey could be a good buy.....if teams set up to frustrate, he could be a useful addition...how many goals can we expect Stevie G to score!!!!!
BTW as a Scot..how about aiden mcgeady celtic as a wideman????

The derby will be high demand, so you will pay at least double the face value, i would stick to the usual haunts.

The best way to get tickets now is to become a member, then you pick up returns, i couldn't make the united game and then i had a change of plan but no ticket, so i signed me and the mrs up and we got tickets on the friday before the game although she was about 5 seats away from me.
