Heskey

Premier League Liverpool

There seems to be stories floating around that we are set to re-sign Emile Heskey.

We have been linked with him quite a lot recently and I wondered what everyones thoughts were?

He would provide us with a target man and works tirelessly to create chances for others. Heskey is a handful and would create space for Torres and create chances for Torres and others. However, although a target man would give us another option, we have a lot of players who work hard, but have limited ability, would Heskey just be another hard working player with no spark?

Keane, Kuyt, all Riera all work hard, but have little spark.

Heskey is a front man and doesnt score many goals. Although 3-4million is not a lot of money, maybe it could be spent better?

If we were allowed 13 men on the pitch I'd have Emile back in a heartbeat. Otherwise we're better spending elsewhere.

I like Heskey alot, probably the classiest player in the league off the pitch. Sound human.

Rafa is only looking at players for the future in this window, he is highly unlikely to move for anyone.

All this talk of babel, dossena etc leaving is just pure column inches that need filling. Both Heskey and Owen will stay at clubs till the summer and then they will move, but think about it why in the current financial climate would we sign emile heskey for 4m when we could have him for nothing in 5 months?

Riera has no spark?

Utter guff. He has more spark than a blowtorch on fire.

why is everyone so shocked - here is a guy who will be happy with the role offered to crouch - ie 20 min cameo appearance and games vs the fulhams of this world. not only that but when he plays for england rooney and owen and the lieks look world class (which they aint) so he must be doing something right. Keane would have a field day playing off hesky... not only that but imagine torres and hesky upfront - even stoke would absolutely SH%t themselves. my only problem with this is that i liek the look of Ngog - thats who heskey would replace - Ngog would go straight inot the reserves and we wouldnt see him again - however heskey is clearly a far better option as a target man. Hesky is another playr (like carra) that if benitez had had him at the beginning of his career he would have been top international class

what makes you so sure he would be happy to be just an impact player? He is getting towards the mid-end of his career and would have thought that he wanted as many games as possible whilst he can still be fit for most games...

im not sure he would be happy to be an impact player but i assume that benitez would warn him that that is all he would be - if he wasnt happy to perform that role i reckon rafa wouldnt sign him. im sure he'd get starts against lower level and physical opposition but he would surewly know he wouldnt be first choice vs real madrid or man u etc...
anyway if he isnt happy for that role - rafa wont sign him imo

yea good point, I can't see him being brought in for anything other than for a change of ideas 70mins into a game we're struggling.

I would welcome him if he was happy to play such a role, also, I recall at the end of the 06/07 season when he played the last game as a defender and essentially kept Wigan in the PL. One of the best solo performances I have seen from any player in a match, he was incredible. Maybe he could be used as a utility player in certain situations too...

also as you say - he is getting towards the end of his career - another way to look at it is he has a last chance to move to a big team - play an important though not vital part and win some medals.
also by playing less he would probably prolongue his career. so although you have a point there is a counter argument. also with the amount torres has been out recently we could do with a striker capable of playing the lone striker role as keane cant... he would never be first choice and he would know that but hwe would probably have a good 10 starts for us this year if he came in the summer
