England's midfield and back row dilemma

Firstly Englands midfield is possibly the most important aspect of the England Team at the moment. Cipriani, will most likely be dropped to the bench with Geraghty coming in at 10. His tackling is very good and creativity is top quality, outside him there are two real options available. Flutey at inside centre, which means you need a bigger outside centre to run lines such as Tindall. Whereas if stuart barnes gets his way and they play Olly Morgan at Full Back, and Armitage at outside centre, then i think you need a big strong fast inside centre such as Turner-Hall.

12 Flutey
13 Tindall

or

12 Turner-Hall
13 Armitage

Secondly the back row debate is now going to be very interesting. Moody should be nowhere near the test team, his form has been of poor standard. At 7 i see Lipman and Armitage fighting it out, with Lipman holding more experience. At 8 i see Crane being dropped to the Saxons, with Haskell starting and Easter seen as back-up. Which means at six i see the more traditional 6 Chris Robshaw vie with Tom Croft. However if Tom Croft plays you need aswell as a lineout operater lock, and lock that plays around the pitch like a 6 and has a lot of grunt - such as Peter Short.

6 Croft
7 Lipman
8 Haskell

reserve

6 Robshaw
7 Armitage
8 Easter

Looks great though!!
what are your thoughts on englands midfield and back row?

rygbilloegr how can you say Tindall hasnt got the skill? have you seen him for Glaws recently?

his running lines are excellant, his work rate around the feild exceptional, a solid tackler and is a good a play maker as any of the centre's currently in the premiership (at 12 or 13, he plays both confidently)... Olly Morgan, JSD, Vainikolo's try scoring record is in no small part thnx to Tindall!

don't understand putting armitage at 13. he is england's form player, but don't mess him about! he is settled in the 15 shirt and playing well, why shove him somewhere else?

IMO, this should be the midfield...

12. Flood
13. Hipkiss/Tindall

I am actually a Glos fan (also a Tindall fan), he has positives, he does run good lines and is superb in defence (and his kicking game has improved), however he is not a playmaker, this does not necessarily mean he does not deserve a place in the England midfield, but with him at 13 you do need to find other ways to bring the back into the game. Glos use Sinbad's handling skills and clever running lines to bring fullback, and wings into the game,he is reponsible for much of Glos's creativity. England will need aexcellent playmakers at both 10 and 12 if we are to really utilise our back 3.

i take your point but if cipriani is the playmaker and wonder boy everyone says he is... (and im not so sure he is)then surely this would not be a problem? I have seen Tindall act as a play maker for us on many occasions, though agreed i went to far to suggest that he IS a play maker... on his current form Tindall must have a place in the england team but in the interests of development id maybe play him off the bench...

Olly Morgan is the on form 15 depsite Armitage success with England

'You can not leave Jamie Noon out'

Why???

He has no pace. He can't pass. He can't kick. His ball retention in contact is poor.

What has he done in his last 6 caps to suggest he's anything other than appalling?

We're all missing a very obvious solution to the troublesome No. 10 position. With the aid of a scrumcap & some bumfluff we could disguise Nick Evans as Cipriani. Problem solved.

Mike Brown should definitely get a look in the 22. Does anyone agree with me on this and the fact that Mark Cueto should have 60 England caps by now?

As a quins fan it hurts me to say, that despite all of Mike Browns ability at full back, he does lack the necessry pace for the international game. Unless there are injuries you can't really look beyond Armitage & Morgan at present. On the subject of Cueto, its good to see him back to his best - he never did much wrong in an England shirt and had a great tries per games ratio, but there have been a few lads played since that have put him way down the pecking order. It will be interesting when the squad is announced.

I think Englands problem is that we have far too many good players at the moment who are good club players, but very little internationally class players.

Cips, Flood, Care, Rees and Haskell all have the ability to become great, however they need time to gel as a team.

My comment about Wilko at 15 was a serious one. Why not? He has all the attributes, and beside his skills, he carries a huge psychological advantage over opposing teams and regarding his team mates. Just look at England's revival in the last WC.

With jonny at 15 he is a steadying infuence to what could be a young, exciting back line (Turner Hall, Care, Cips, Gerraghty, Armartige ect...) He could be the goal kicker, drop kicker, taking pressure of our younger playmakers.
Furthermore, he can switch to 10 if need be. He reads the game well so he will hit good running lines, tackles better than most and kicks well! To me these are all attributes of a world class 15?
