I can't believe Shola is still at the club. He has NEVER been more than Championship quality

Yea but at the current time Newcastle are a nearing being a champsionship team so he is fitting in well.

Shola has had a fair amount of critics over his time at Newcastle, but you have to give the lad some credit. I think we all know that he isn't the type of player who is going to set the world alight. Whenever he gets picked, he does do an above average job, and he contributes with the odd goal here and there. He is possibly more useful in the front-line than maybe an Alan Smith or (maybe in the slightly longer term) a Mark Viduka.
In the past when he has been called upon to replace a striker through injury, he hasn't chickened out of the task.

absolute B*LLCR*P.

i don't have to give him credit, he's been paid very nicely by newcastle for over ten years now and in that time he's only proved what a waste of time he is.

i think theres a lot of people who would be a lot better than him if they'd been training and playing football full time for the last 10 years.

and i also think theres roughly 50000 people at st james every other week that wouldn't chicken out of playing either.

the lads lucky, very lucky. he must have played a blinder in 1 game when he was 12 / 13 and in exchange for that NUFC have made him a multi-millionaire.

the reason he's being given a contract is solely because he already had one. if we got a player from mexico or japan in on a trial and they were as poo as he his they'd be sent packing.

With Viduka going at the end of the season (he's always injured, anyway...) we need a strong and tall centre-forward. Sadly enough, we're not going to get anyone better than Shola...

I agree. He's simply not good enough for a team that should be challenging for trophies.

But maybe that shows the extent of the ambition of the management - giving a new contract to a Championship quality player.

I find it unbelievable that they have even contemplated offering him a new contract. His record is appalling and his fitness is dodgy.

I expected as much

It's not awful news, he is a decent back up player, however if he's the only player who's going to agree an extension this month, then that will be a disaster

The only reason I can think that this donkey has been given a new contract, is that they are preparing for the championship.

youve got to take into consideration that hes only really got about 15 games a season at best, wiht the likes of owen, martins and shearer he never really has had his chance to shine. now with owen looking certain to go and martins out for a bit, i hope he finally gets his chance and nets a few to prove a lot of the doubters wrong!

"As has been pointed out, he's our top scorer in Europe still at the club!"
