Live - Monday's FA Cup

comment on the article

Never boring is it, this FA Cup of ours? I presume you don't need me to remind you what happened on a weekend of high drama...

And so on to tonight, and Blyth Spartans v Blackburn Rovers. Let's get the David v Goliath reference out of the way early doors, shall we?

Separated by 118 league places, there can only be one winner. Or can there? Can Harry Dunn mastermind one of the greatest Cup upsets of all time?

Find out here. Tonight. I'll be expecting you.

Hmm, i think the biggest upset in the next round will probably be, Torquay beating Coventry =]

And i think the top 5 will go through, but Liverpool will only just beat Everton winkeye

But i can see if Villa get through we'll just get UTD again =[

With the exception of the goal, i can't think i have seen as poor a performance from a premiership side for many a year. Blackburn were absolutely appalling ,completely devoid of any ideas, had no system and looked like a Sunday pub side after a heavy Saturday night. Good to see Allardyces influence and tactical magic has already made it onto the pitch.

Blackburn were rank awful!, that said it was a totally different team to what would have played in the premiership. In truth we won and for me at this moment in time thats all that matters. Alot of those Rovers players will be gone though by the time Big Sam's finished with them!

Bad luck Spartans. Blackburn dominated the posession, but 'Big Head' Sam again showed his arrogance in several ways.
Firstly his team selection showed a certain lack of respect for the opposition.
Secondly, his comments during the second half on TV about bad defending or bad refereeing being the only way back into the game were way out of order - was it a pre-determined excuse in case Blyth got an equaliser?

It was very much his style of football. Instead of looking to pass the ball wide and tire Blyth out, Rovers resorted to lumping it up too often. OK, the pitch is not the best, but, believe me, it is a million times better than some of the mud heaps they used to play on at Croft Park!!!

Had Harry been a little less negative for most of the game it could have been very interesting, as Rovers were under real pressure when Spartans finally decided to have a go. Nevertheless, Spartans kept alive the true meaning of football - played hard but fair. Hope it's not 30 years before their next cup run.

I agree 100%, Fabisgod. We watched the match on Setanta, and were appalled at Allardyce's lack of respect for Blyth, both in the team he put out and his comments during the game. It wouldn't have been so bad if his players had been as good as he was trying to make out. Sam, they WEREN'T that much better than Blyth, in fact, they were atrocious. The only decent Blackburn player on the pitch was Roberts.

Well done Spartans you put in a real good last 25 minutes and i think this will concern Rovers supporters.

In the end Spartans could've won it, let alone draw it!! But, it wasn't to be.

I think they can be proud of what they've done in the Cup this year.

It was a fantastic achievement to knock out Bournemouth in the second round and before that cruising past my own team, Shrewsbury 3-1 was brilliant for them.

Overall, well done Blyth, you have knocked two league sides out and really competed against a premier league side.

Now, you can go and concentrate on the BSN.

Well done everyone associated to Blyth Spartans ok

All credit to Blyth Spartans for their performance yesterday. They did themselves and 'Blue Square North' proud. Hopefully, they can now secure their safety in BSN.
As for 'Big Sam', he blatantly disrespected the opposition with the quality of the team he put on the pitch, together with the visible disdain whenever he was interviewed. At the end, I was hoping that Blyth would force a replay at Ewood Park (they had a couple of real good chances in the last 10 minutes), just to make the point to Allardyce.

Kudos also to the referee who had a very good game, unlike Mike Riley and the plonk who refereed Gillingham and Villa.
