Was KP right?

England

We obviously dont know all the ins and outs of the KP Moores situation but from what I can gather KP wants to be head boy in everything - calling the shots at when and how they train, picking the sqaud the whole shebang.
As a captain, is he right to do what he is doing? I read one Sunday reporter who stated that Pietersen has no allegiance to the England team as he is South African and ran away from his own country when the going got tough, so the WECB shouldnt back down here as we dont need Jonny foreigner calling the shots. Now I dont agree with this sentiment in the slightest, in fact it was a narrow minded bordering on racist article, but foreigner or not should a captain be given so much power? Id be interested to hear what people think.

If we lose KP we had better invent another game as our cricket will be knocked back behind Bangladesh. Moore should have gone when Kevin took over as captain.

From the outset KP was a big head wallowing in his glory. Star player but never a captain ( how much experience as a captain has he?) All the good captains were non assuming steady characters. You would have thought the ECB would have learnt from the Botham disaster as captain.
I don't know what effect KP will have on the team now, but I expect he will be in the background stirring it.
Strauss remember is also a South African by birth but luckily left before the SA psyche had time to develop. I lived there for 4 years and they all act like spoilt little school boys. Peter Moores, difficult, if he had KP snapping at his heals all the time it may have affected his performance, but that then asks the question is he srong enough.

Have to say agree with steviegen. Pieterson went public and threw his toys out of the pram because he didn't get his own way. Captain leads the team but shouldn't dictate who does what where and when. Pieterson is not teh first non English captain of the national team - that shouldn't be an issue. Don't see a place for Vaughan's reinstatement. He has not displayed sufficent form to merit selection. I am dismayed that one player is allowed to dominate the headlines. Cricket is after all a team game. One last htought. Talk of affecting teh ahses is rubbish. Any player who cannot raise his game for t eh ashes shouldn't be playing in the first instance.

One thing, I dont agree that you have to have experience to be a good captain. Graeame SMith is a prime example. Using another sport, Will Carling. Your captain needs to be a certain type of person and a player who the selectors think will be guaranteed a starting place. All three were in that position. KP didnt do a lot wrong as a skipper from what I could gather, however, he was stupid to make public his dissatisfactions. THey are best kept behind closed doors. Also, he shouldnt have been sat in S Africa, whether he leaked the problems or not, letting all and sundry know he had issues.

Of course he was right

Captain KP & England probably would never work.

South African KP with Southern Hemisphere winning mentality vs Conservative ECB with it's "the taking part that counts old bean" attitude was doomed.

England is not ready for this type of captain

Well, he's gone. The last five months will look like a dream, and if only Strauss had been given the job in the first place...

I'm sorry and angry for everyone involved, if that makes sense.

Steiegen

You're right to say G Smith is a good example but for the wrong reasons. On appointment and for some time he was very poor as a Captain. It's mainly experience that has made him so much better.

England not ready for this type of captain.

What about DB Close and R Illingworth.

I think Lord Hawke was the original some 90 - 100 years ago.

You certainly could add Douglas Jardine.

To a lesser extent captains who 'did it their way' without perhaps experiencing so much trouble were Brearley, Fender, Chapman but that perhaps is a different discussion. They all, however, seemed to get their own way.
