Well Done Phil Taylor

Thoroughly deserved - 109.76 over 7 sets is unstoppable.

Barney played very well tonight, 103 average will beat pretty much anyone but tonight, Phil wanted this so much and that possibly was the difference.

Well done Phil and commiserations to Barney. Just wish it was closer but the better player won

If you don't 'get' it, then there's not much point moaning about it Johnnygray26. And you're unlikely to find many friends on this thread.

For what it's worth, darts is a game of consummate skill which has produced many many moments of pure sporting theatre over the years.

And as someone who enjoys playing both athletic and non-athletic sports, I can say I have equal respect for those who have risen to the top of their profession in both.

I'm little more than a passing darts fan but don't you just get fed up of people moaning about whether it is a sport or not. Who cares.

Does Stephen Lee look particularly sporty when he plays snooker? How is snooker a sport when darts isn't?

Frankly, most track events at athletics do not actually require any skill per se, just the ability to keep going.

And egg-chasing. If you can hold something whilst running fast then you can be good at that too.

Try playing against a good darts player then tell me there isn't alot of skill involved.

Believe me, if you actually go to watch darts (I went to the Circus Tavern a few years ago when my friends dad made it to the last 32 - what a day!) you will realise that you are entering something of a sporting cauldron when it comes to atmosphere and competitiveness.

Also, darts is scored similar to, say, tennis whereby it's never lost till someone else wins. How many (myself included) have been to live football where after about half an hour the game is dead, as is the atmosphere. And how much do you pay for that!

Well done Phil, cracking stuff. Bad luck Barney but what a performance on Friday night against Klassen.

Obviously Johnny as no clue in the real world ..what hes talking about is shear rubbish...
Phil Taylor is a master at his chosen sport, no one will ever get near his acheivments or his dedication to the sport,
so johnny go get a life and do something useful, like comment on fishing or something where less skill and brains are needed

Taylors end average was actually 110.9 absolutely incredible, sayin darts isnt a sport is a joke the skill level required to be a top player is imense.

I'm a massive footy fan but i also love darts. How can anyone say that darts is not a sport? It's a great sport!!

Phil was unbelievable last night. Probably the best darts I've ever witnessed. He was hitting at least a ton 40 on each visit!!

The amazing thing was that Barney was outplayed last night but yet he probably would have done enough to beat anyone else last night quite easily. That's how good Phil was.

I think it's disgraceful that the BBC Sports Personality award continues to pass him by. Name me another sportsman or sportswomen who has dominated their sport for the past 15 to 20 years or so like Phil has.

"There's only one Phil Taylor......"

Re: the difference in the PDC dartboard vs BDO dartboard.

I own a BDO board myself, and I can say without any argument that it IS different to those used in the PDC.

The wires on the BDO board are without doubt thicker and, in my experience, cause a lot more bounce-outs than other boards.

Also, the size of the trebles and doubles do 'look' bigger on the PDC boards on TV - however this may be due to the fact that the wires are thinner, I'm not sure.
I havent had the chance to measure both of them.

Either way, the thicker wires will have a negative impact on the average score IMO.

If you look at the averages of Barney in the PDO (usually 93) vs what he gets in the PDC (almost 100) then it is wrong to totally dismiss the idea the the boards are a factor.

Robert Thornton's averages have also gone upwards since joining last year.

Apologies if I have missed some other thread about this but I can not see why this point was dismissed so readily.

PS - It doesnt take away from the fact that Taylor was simply awesome last night though.
Barney was right when he said it was like playing a computer!

Did Taylor throw more than 18 darts in any one leg?

The winmau and unicorn boards used in both championships have exactly the same size trebles, doubles and bull segments, the diffenence is that the bbc camera on the board is positioned at a lower angle than skys cameras, therefore the underside of the wire is more visable making the segment look smaller... i know what u mean though bmoffat9 it does look smaller on the winmau, but i have measured it to be sure. also well done to phil, 20 tournament victories out of 25 i think that is from the premier league 08 to the worlds 09, AWESOME... 'THERE IS ONLY ONE PHIL TAYLOR' walking along singing a song .... u know the rest lol..

Just look at my profile which has stood like that for years. Phil Taylor is as good as Tiger Woods and Roger Federer and no surprise that all 3 of them are around the 13 or 14 mark concerning majors. Some might consider that comment ridiculous but just go to your local pub, pick up a set of darts and have a go. Then you will realise how incredible The Power is. Absolutely love the guy and soon he can retire at peace with the world.
Bristows 5 titles was staggering, Phils will never be beaten.
