Tosic & Ljajic

Premier League Manchester United
comment on the article

We have dipped into the market and got ourselves the two serbian players we have been linked with over the last month. Tosic to join straight away and wear the no.14 shirt and Ljajic to stay with Partizan until end of 2009

Right Nikos, if you didn't make a big enough idiot of yourself by including Nistelrooy in a list of class players that Utd could never have, here's some stats for you. I'd like to know just how these clubs records in Europe (over the same period you selected for Utd) are any better than ours?

Madrid:

92-93 - not competing
93-94 - not competing
94-95 - not competing
95-96 - Juventus (QF)
96-97 - not competing
97-98 - Winners
98-99 - Dynamo Kiev (QF)
99-00 - Winners
00-01 - Bayern Munich (QF)
01-02 - Winners
02-03 - Juventus (SF)
03-04 - Monaco (QF)
04-05 - Juventus (2nd Rd)
05-06 - Arsenal (2nd Rd)
06-07 - Bayern Munich (2nd Rd)
07-08 - Roma (2nd Rd)

Won it once more, not been runners up, haven't made it to the semi's more than once, and have failed at the 2nd Rd stage for the last 4 seasons. Oh, they weren't even good enough to be involved on FOUR occasions.

Barca:

92-93 - CSKA (2nd Rd)
93-94 - Milan (Final)
94-95 - PSG (QF)
95-96 - not competing
96-97 - not competing
97-98 - bottom of group behind Newcastle, PSV, D. Kiev
98-99 - 3rd in group behind Man Utd & Bayern Munich
99-00 - Valencia (SF)
00-01 - 3rd in group (Leeds, Milan, Besiktas in group)
01-02 - Real Madrid (SF)
02-03 - Juventus (QF)
03-04 - not competing
04-05 - Chelsea (2nd Rd)
05-06 - Winners
06-07 - Liverpool (2nd Rd)
07-08 - Man Utd (SF)

You'd have to be mad to think this is any better than ours.

Milan:

92-93 - Marseille (Final)
93-94 - Winners
94-95 - Ajax (Final)
95-96 - not competing
96-97 - 3rd in group (Porto, Rosenborg, IFK in group)
97-98 - not competing
98-99 - not competing
99-00 - bottom of group behind Hertha Berlin, Chelsea, Galatasaray
00-01 - 2nd Rd, 3rd in group (Galatasaray, PSG, Deportivo in group)
01-02 - not competing
02-03 - Winners
03-04 - Deportivo (QF)
04-05 - Liverpool (Final)
05-06 - Barcelona (SF)
06-07 - Winners
07-08 - Arsenal (2nd Rd)

Not even in the competition 4 times, again. Didn't get out of the group stage/s 3 times (Porto, IFK and Rosenborg FFS!), not as consistently into the QF's.

Basically, unless you're a WUM, stupid, or both, our record is easily on a par with these 3, especially in terms of consistently actually being IN the competition to start with, and making it to the later stages.

Ask the people who have managed in the competition and they'll place us as one of THE teams to beat.

As for those whining about us having no home grown talent... one word...

Wellbeck.

If that one's not good enough, try Evans, and (at a push) Gibson.

And do you really want me to rattle off names of our ex youth team players who are playing for premier league teams? Stoke played 3 against us for a start.

I know, I don't post around here much, but him and a couple of others I recognise as being total spanners! Just wanted to prove a point. winkeye

Looking forward to seeing Tosic in action anyway, I'm not very hopeful of Nani turning out as good as we all hoped. Today was more proof i think, no awareness of what's going on around him at all, seems to make the wrong decision every time. Compare that to Rooneys vision to pick out Gibson, and that shows you what a quality player should be able to do. Nani was in a similar position and popped one right into the keepers hands.

Hardly good signings - one barely plays and the other isn't even coming anymore.
