Denman backers in trouble

If Kauto jumps the way he did at kempton on gold cup day then I think denman will be in big trouble. If I was a Denman backer I would trade out now. What let Kauto down in last years gold cup was his jumping, he hardly jumped any of the fences cleanly. Paul Nicholls is still learning new things about Kauto and I think he will have him in prime condition at the gold cup.

All that said I can’t see kauto beating denman unless he has ruby walsh on board, ruby knows him better then anyone else, and for the sake of the race I hope he sticks with Kauto.

Certainly cant see any other horse winning it bar these two, a lot of people have been hyping up NC and Tidal Bay, I think they are very good horses but these two are all time greats and I can see another revere forecast.

galaxy do you think denman could stay 4 miles carrying top weight?(let imagine hes fully fit)

i know im a kauto fan but i think it madness to run a horse of denmans class in the gn so soon after the gc after coming back from an op!...his owners clearly dont give a dam about him do they.its greed without compassion

I don't think the weight or the trip will be a problem for Denman in the GN. Remember Hedgehunter came very close to winning off 2lb in 2006, after finishing 2nd in the Gold Cup.

The issue for me will be that of fitness. The horse will go into the Gold Cup after a long lay off with only one prep race. He will then have to go flat out for 3m2f to beat Kauto, Remember that although he won by 7l last year, he was extremely tired at the last. He may have Kauto's measure round Cheltenham but on good ground he will be pushed every step of the way. He wil then have 3 weeks to recover and have to go upwards of 7lb at least to the likes of Exotic Dancer and Halcon Genelardais, not to mention horses like Notre Pere who will get in off around 10st. I'm not saying he can't do it but it is a huge test of his physical reserves. If he succeeds then he will be regarded as one of the all time greats

Kauto Stars jumping was put under too much pressure by the relentless gallop Denman set. In his Gold Cup win he just lobbed along and sprinted away turning for home. Denman will put too much pressure on his jumping again.

the race wasnt run at fast pace so kautos jumping was down to himself, not denmans gallop-kautos jumping was rubbish at nearly every fence on the second lap-he just simply lost ground

Monkeymagoo

What makes you say that the race wasn't run at a fast pace?

hi galaxy- the goin was heavier so it suited denman-and if your check denmans winning time it was nearly 10 seconds slower than kautos winning time the year before....

Would you not say the time was infact quick considering the conditions were slower than the year previous?

10 seconds slower on much softer ground,i would'nt say there would be too much in it based on there times on different goings.

it may have been quick for the goin but i think 10 seconds is a significant difference-i honestly think if its heavy again this year kauto wont win-i know everyone says hes gos well on any ground but i just think round chetenham he needs better ground with it being so up and down hills, because speed between fences becomes more of weapon somthing kauto has in adbundence-it was a bog last year + his jumping was awful so when he made the errors he couldnt make up the ground....

I think the belief that the race was run at a slow pace can be proven to be incorrect by the fact that even on the first circuit the horses were very spread out, which is most certainly not the sign of a slow gallop.
Furthermore, If you listen to the comments of the likes of Mick Fitzgerald and Paddy Brennan after riding in the race, it can be concluded the race was ran at a very good gallop.
