Transfer window winners and losers

Premier League
comment on the article

Yes, it's that time of year again...the January transfer window swung open at midnight, giving clubs the opportunity to buy and sell players for the first time since August.

Traditionally it is the time for panic buys - but the players who arrive at this stage of the season can make or break a team's season.

Last year a record £150m was spent by Premier League clubs, more than double the previous highest amount of £70m in 2006.

That figure could easily be beaten this year, especially since cash-rich Manchester City are looking to add to their squad.

But who do you think the transfer window winners and losers will be? and which players should clubs be looking to buy/sell and hold on to.

By the way, you can read all about which top-flight club is linked with which player here:

And here is today's gossip column with the all the latest news on which club is chasing who:

Man City can have all the money in the world but with a cr-p manager like Hughes they wont get anywhere.

-------------------------

Special agent Mark Hughes will spend big, bring in players who demand huge salaries, who will fit in well at a club with no ambition, then return to the "Theatre" when his mission is complete.

Once a RED always a RED!!!!!

Glen Johnson & Nadir Belhadj on their way to Liverpool - possibly in the summer.

An an Interisti - i wud gladly welcome M.Owen to Inter - he is known for being a goal-poacher and that is exactly what we need. He can form the perfect strikeforce with Ibrahimovic too.
Also Fabio Capello will be happy - he will most definitely pick Owen everytime.

I think Pompey could be a real winner. If they can sell Defoe,Kranjcer,BabyDiop, for silly money, like Diarra. Also offload Camp-bell. These players are not tough enough for a relegation battle, and it would reduce our crippling wage bill Harry left us with.
Get O'Neill,Taylor,Benjani and some committed players back.

Pompey could be in trouble if they lose Defoe and Glen Johnson. Even if they get good money for them i dont think they would get suitable replacements in Jan and would struggle without them.

City will obviously be the team to watch this transfer window with the money that Hughes apparently has to spend. Depends on who they bring in though, i expect to see Santa Cruz join them but Citys biggest problem is their defence and CM. If they could get Given, Cruz Bridge and a quality DM they could have a good team and get back up the table. A lot depends on who Hughes gets in and how quickly they settle in.

There will only be one group of people winning in the January transfer window........ Football Agents.

Clubs will either lose a shed load of cash for the over inflated cost of January. Or they will lose a player which will be hard to replace. Fans will lose out too as they have to pay more the following season for tickets to cover the extra cost incurred of buying the players.

Winners are the clubs with money to spend as I am sure this has been mentioned previously.

Losers are clubs who will/want to sign Michael Owen, Jermaine Defoe and Emile Heskey - the three overrated footballers in England

I think i nearly wet myself that Newcastle believe they are a bigger club than Aston Villa especially as we have won the english top flight seven times and also the champions league check your history before you start saying that you have more history than us magpies
