Paul Jewell resigns

Championship Derby County
comment on the article

Paul Jewell has resigned as manager of Derby.

The former Wigan boss lasted just 13 months at Pride Park and decided enough was enough after their 1-0 defeat to Ipswich on Sunday.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foo...

The Rams had won just one league game in nine attempts since mid-November, although Jewell did guide the club to the semi-finals of the Carling Cup.

His assistant Chris Hutchings has been put in charge for Derby's next two games.

Did you think Jewell was right to walk away? And who would you like to see replace him?

Note: Rams commentator Ross Fletcher will be hosting a phone-in on BBC Radio Derby this evening - 18:00 GMT Monday 29th Dec - where you can have your say on Paul Jewell and his potential replacement - www.bbc.co.uk/derby/local_ra...

NOT Dean Saunders ( only just gone to Wrexham) NOT Igor ( prima donna) and certainly NOT Keane (nuff said). Nigel Clough first, Umbrella man 2nd, and I would accept Incey as third choice - Happy new year all REAL Rams fans smiley

Jim Gannon of Stockport County is the man for the Rams, a winner, not a has been, or never will be, he is the one Mr Pearson, and Mr Glick.

Why not Saunders?? Just because he has just taken over at Wrexham?? So what. He has turned them round and Wales are doing really well with young lads, would be nice to have an ex-player in charge.

I don't think Leicester are in any position to criticise Derby's abject failure after their own farcical season in the CCC.

Pleased for Nigel Pearson & our ex-players, but don't think Leicester as a club ought to lecture others.

None of us have forgotten how you cheated the system by going into administration to rid debts and then gain promotion.

Thanks to your shenanigans, decent clubs with genuine financial problems not incurred by crazy signings (Akinbiyi) are now being punished with draconian measures brought in no small part by your blatant exploitation of the system.

Saw you actually support Bristol City/Arsenal.

I still think your comments wide of the mark.

Be thankful you had someone as nice as Jewell to step aside when he saw it was necessary.

We were lucky enough to have Pardew who refused to leave and subsequently had to be sacked which has financially crippled our club (around a £1.6m payout required).

it beggars believe that derby can loan out the likes of liam dickinson a proven goal scorer as hes shown at huddersfield and blackpool while they seem to be struggling in the stricker department!!jim gannon for derby county i hope not why would he want to step down and leave stockport to take up a role at the likes of derby

In my opinion, Paul Jewell shouldn't of resigned. when southampton lost in the semi finals of the playoff's when the rams went up, the next season they did shocking it's just part of the game, i beleive that in time paul jewell would of turned the team around but injurys prevented him form doing this, this half of the season. but i think he should of spent more on strikers or not loaned out liam dickinson as he is a natural goalscorer.

Whatever happens they need to get rid of Hutchings ASAP. He's the kiss of death. Ask Bradford & Wigan.
