Wayne Rooney

Premier League Manchester United

Firstly, I am a massive Wayne Rooney fan. In fact I would say that on his day he is unstoppable.
HOWEVER this guys has a pea for a brain. Yesterday, that Elbow was absolutely stupid. I mean, if he had connected and broken Faye's jaw then he would have been looking at a substantial ban, not just 3 games.
Then when Wilkinson got sent off, Rooney went steaming over to the ref and Giggs had to tell him to go away from the situation. I mean what did Rooney want? For the ref to give Wilkinson two red cards?
This comes a week after he kicked the opponent on the floor a few minutes after coming on against Gamba Osaka. He got booked then, but I remember the famous 1991 Arsenal vs United brawl starting from a similar situation and the punishments were severe.

1) It shouldn't matter whether or not Scholes intends to hack a player down. If he does then it should be a red card, if he doesn't then it should be a yellow card, but as it is he generally gets away with nothing.

2)I no longer believe the party line that Scholes "Doesn't know how to tackle". I think he knows exactly what he's doing a lot of the time, and uses other people's misconceptions about him to get away with things other players wouldn't.

I agree that being English appears to give certain players an advantage. Shearer and Owen have also benefitted from it in the past. Rooney is worse than any of the above though, he's a thug. If he were foreign he'd be hated by everyone in this country.

"if you take the sting out of a cobra what do you have? a belt!"

i think it would be stupid to remove aggression from a player who when using it properly has a great asset, this has its obvious downsides, but the good outweighs the bad. you should'nt mess with someones attitude and style without examining the fact it could ruin their play as a result!

Love that quote and it's so true.Rooney is still improving as a player. I think to call him 'overated' is a nonsense. I bet anyone who has seen Rooney regularly at Old Trafford would beg to differ. Over the next few seasons at Man United I am sure he will become more of a prolific goalscorer, this is the only thing lacking form his game, the end product.

Firstly too claim Rooney is overated is just utter rubbish! He is by Englands best player by quite a long shot. Now his big weakness is his temperement and will surely end with a massive ban and fine meaning referees will see the bad in all challenges he makes in the future and atempted elbow on Faye was complete stupidity and he could not take being out muscled by a much stronger man. Rooney will always be a loose cannon but one we are all willing to risk.

Isn't it passion that he needs to keep and lose the aggression?

The FA continue to treat the big 4 clubs and teams differently from the rest. Which would suggest a level of corruption.

Aggression is illegal...

If he played for West Bromwich Albion he'd be sent off six or seven times per season, he should already have had three red cards at the very least this time round, and that's just in the matches I've seen.

The reasons reason anyone brings up Rooney's aggression or temper, is because he's a big name player, always in the spot light. Any 'lesser' player, would not even be mentioned in the tabloids.

Really? In that case why do people hate Robbie Savage, Craig Bellamy, El Hadj Diouf and Joey Barton? They all receive extensive coverage in the press when they let their tempers get the better of them and none of them are 'big name players'.

------------------------
El Hadj Diouf -
He has spat at fans 2-3 times.
Craig Bellamy - off the field Antics, ie literally playing golf with a teamm ate.
Joey Barton - For being a complete thug on and off the pitch
Robbie Savage - For being Robbie Savage

This players have been brought up, not for the on the pitch style, but for their antics off the pitch or lack of professionalism.

What some of these players have done, is far worse than anything Rooney would ever do.

Do you think anyone really cares that Bellamy is alleged to have threatened John Arne Riise with a golf club? That's not the reason I boo him personally.

And what do you mean by saying Robbie Savage is booed "For being Robbie Savage"? What he used to do was exactly the same as what Rooney does now, only he did is less frequently and less blatantly.
