Ferdinand out for 10 days

Premier League Manchester United

“Rio won’t play against Middlesbrough,” Sir Alex confirmed after the match.

“He had a back spasm again. We have to get to the root of this; he’s had this back problem too many times, so we want to get to the bottom of it.

“First of all, we’ll give him complete rest, but I think he’ll be okay in about 10 days.”

its the recurrence of the back spasm but now he will be given a complete rest, then he will be treated which means he will be fresh to face Chelsea and Inter. In the mean time, it seems as though Evans will be given another run in the team and i must applaud Vidic as his performance today was superb.

Have to disagree. Ferdinand was a great defender but it is clear he not in the same class as Vidic. I have seen Vidic clearly lose it with his team mates on the football field, clearly frothing at the mouth, this is the sort of thing we have missed since the days of Roy Kean and Peter Schmeichel. Rio just doesn't cut it like that. Another thing, we have young inexperienced Johnny Evans, who has clearly took his chance while he could, which is rare for a great number of players in the United entourage, and he has grabbed this opportunity with both hands, and proved that he is a lot better than even the everyday defenders like Gallas, Toure, Carvalho, Hyppia. All Evans needs is a goal.

---------------

You simply are not that smart and no little about football.

Ferdinand is outstanding but if I had to choose at gunpoint... I would take Vidic everytime.

The guy has been sublime this season. The way he has nursed Evans through the dodgy patches. The cleaning up he does and the speed at which he reacts. I bow at his feet... he scores too.

P.S. Did you see him telling Berbi what to do before his goal as he blocked out the chelsea defense.

we need ferdiand more than evans against inter milan. Inter will run riot against Evans... at this stage in his career... evans is not mobile enough. He will be naive against top quality european football.

we need ferdinand back because vidic is suspended. evans is the only defender looking certain to play in the san siro

I totally agree with you about Vidic he's been awesome all season. It was interesting to see Didier (I wish I'd really hit him) Drogbha getting as far away from him as possible on Sunday.

I think to say that Evans isn't mobile is way off the mark. The only thing he lacks is experience.

We certainly will need Rio in the Guiseppi Miazza.

I know a bit worrying isnt it. Who would play if both werent available do you reckon?

O'shea with evans?, brown? or we could even see gary neville in the middle again.

D'OH!!! what an idiotic comment! the defence will be better without Rio??

I am a bit worried about Evra's absence mind, he gives us so much going forward and even though I think O'Shea is a good player he just can't do anywhere near enough as Evra!! Evra's one of the best full backs in the world in my opinion!

Doubt it. O'shea did well whilst Evra was suspended so he deserves his place and Ferguson trusts him.
