Who should Man City buy in January?

Premier League Manchester City
comment on the article

Given the euphoria - and drama - of Robinho's arrival at Eastlands at the very end of the August transfer window, there can not be many Man City fans who expected us to be in the Premier League relegation zone come Christmas.

But that is exactly where Mark Hughes' side find themselves after their last-gasp defeat by West Brom at the weekend and I cannot be the only Blue looking forward to New Year's day more than a Christmas programme that sees us play Hull (watch out for Geovanni in that one) and a rejuvenated Blackburn side.

It is well-documented that Hughes will have millions to spend when the transfer window re-opens on 1 January, courtesy of the club's new oil-rich billionaire owners.

A striker, holding midfielder and left-back seem top of Hughes' hit-list and it is not hard to see why. But who should City be looking to sign?

Portmsouth star Lassana Diarra has gone to Real Madrid but the club have been heavily linked with Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz - who thrived under Hughes at Ewood Park - as well as Rovers left-back Stephen Warnock or Chelsea's Wayne Bridge, who would also fill a position that neither Javier Garrido or Michael Ball have made their own.

Santa Cruz and either of Bridge or Warnock would do City for starters - I think we need proven Premier League performers right now...not players that, no matter how good, will take a couple of months to bed in and adjudt to English football.

Oh, and an experienced back-up for Joe Hart and somebody who can play wide left when Robinho is up front or unfit would be handy too as Martin Petrov is out for the forseeable future.

Personally, I think we should wait until the summer to try to lure another superstar like Robinho to the club. And realistically, we may have to. Don't expect Kaka in sky-blue just yet...

But that's just my opinion and, with City linked with over 60 players since the end of August, it is anyone's guess as to who will end up arriving at Eastlands.

What I want to know from City fans is who would be your ideal signings?..and, go on then, tell me who would be your dream buys too.

Also, who should leave? Elano does not seem to get on with Hughes and could be shipped out on loan which would be a sad end to what was such a promising start to his City career.

Should we farm out Jo to get some confidence too? And who else of the current squad should Hughes get rid of?

Let me know...

City, with Petrov out, an ankle injury to Robinho, Elano out of form and a lack of mature Prem-class strikers, have still got the 2nd most goals in the league.

We need to stop leaking goals.

Bridge, Upson, Toure and a foil for Kompany (or someone to use instead of Fernandes) are more important than Santa Cruz right now.

A left-back is probably the most essential. Another centre should be second; when Richards and Dunne had a drop in form, City were screwed.

Warnock is probably a fair call as well, and Bridge can be pushed up into the midfield if necessary.

I don't think Hughes will spend too much; City need to keep the good players they have (Richards, Robinho, Sturridge, Ireland for a start) although they do have a number of fringe players that could fund some big deals.

How much would Elano go for, and would it be worth using Michael Johnson in a swap or just selling outright, despite his lack of form this season?

i think we shud sell-

vassell 1m-he might help bury come up to league coz he could be their super sub

benjani 1m-he might help a pub team get relegated hes so bad

hughes free transfer-he can manage benjani`s pub team and get them relegated

i think we should buy-

cudicini 2m-will be a good benchwarmer and may teach hart a bit

lahm or taiwo 10m or 8m-2 superb attackin full backs

toure 15m-solid and unlike dunne he doesnt score own goals

lescott 10m-richards hasnt got his form this season and lescott has scored more goals than most of our strikers

senna 5m-we need a back up for kompany

messi 40m-we need another touch of class in our team

benzema 30m or drogba 30m or torres 35m-we need a world class striker

and we shud play-

zabaleta toure lescott lahm
swp messi

Please can people stop mentioning Heskey! He is basically the same player as Benjani....He heavily overated in the air, and doesnt use his strength as he should. I would actually rather have Benjani, at least he works hard.
Also when is Hughes going to realise how accident prone Dunnie is? although saying that we keep voting him player of the season every year? For god sake just watch a game and take note of how many times he puts us under uneccesary pressure by giving the ball away or giving a corner. and how many times that leads to goals!

anyway, january
Out: All the fringe players who are not good enough for a team with high aspirations. players like vass and benjani are just hindering the development of players like sturrdige.
Dunne - has gave his all for so long id rather there isnt an awkward scenario where he has to be dropped, a nice positive sale to someone like pompey would be great business
loans. - Jo needs confidence, sturridge and evans need games, same goes for those not in the first team like logan, mee, and weiss

quality not quantity, i would settle for RSQ, Bridge/Warnock and Senna, possibly CB cover, and an experienced keeper, i like Joe Hart but it wouldnt hurt buying an old goal keeper to mentor him, someone like cudicini would be fine. maybe a left winger so robinho could play in the middle.
my ideal signing would be diego from werder bremen, as he is quality on the ball and grew up with robinho, and would replace elano as robinho is probably gonna be disappointed when sparky inevitably sells him.
other than that i think we are fine until the summer.

Let's just hop into a time machine and drag Maradona in his peak into the starting 11 while we're at it.

Chelsea might let Drogba go for around 30m, Liverpool wouldn't let Torres go for at least 40-45 and Messi wouldn't be available for anything cheap either.

It's more cost effective, and sensible, to plug up the holes in the defence rather than splurging on stars.

Senna wouldn't be picked up for less than 10m. Everton won't let Lescott go for less than 20m. You said it yourself, he's scored more goals than most of our strikers - that includes the Toffees' forwards as well.

Toure at 15 might be reasonable, but again, this is all too much dreaming and not enough scheming to be realistic for this transfer window.

Shay Given - Newcastle 8M
Wayne Bridge - Chelsea 10M
Matthew Upson - West Ham 8M
Torsten Frings - Werder Bremen 6M
Ryan Babel - Liverpool 12M
Roque Santa Cruz - Blackburn 15M
FFS Get Sturridge On A Big Fat Contract.

These are very realistic targets and will balance your squad with the right level of experience and ability.

And a couple of cheeky bids for you;

Luis Fabiano - Sevilla 25M
Michael Ballack - Chelsea 8M

Ones to avoid;
Kolo Toure;
Easily the worst Defender in what is comfortably the worst Arsenal Defence for 20 years.
Scott Parker;
What is the point, he is hardly ever fit, and when he is does very little.
Craig Bellamy;
What is the point, he is hardly ever fit, and when he is doesn't score enough goals.

Get rid of
Michael Johnson;
6M - Might have ability but will never have the right attitude, Championship Player of the Future.
Michael Ball;
500K - Championship Player of the Present.
Danny Mills;
Shaleum Logan;
Gelson Fernandes;
1M Could be a good Player one day, but you're not a development Club any more.
8M Talented but for 8/9 months hasn't looked interested at all.
You're going to have to write this one off, he has nothing to offer the English game, loan out to Spanish Club could help secure Fabiano though.
Ched Evans;
You might get 3M for him from a Club intent on promotion to the Premier League, Cardiff? SNATCH it he is heading for Rochdale in 3 years.

Ok, so we've got pots of money. Let's go for it then.

Buy the best 'keeper first, Shay Given. Buy Santa Cruz. Buy Wayne Bridge. Buy Marcos Senna. Buy Matthew Upson.

Look around for anyone else looking restless and snap them up too - Drogba maybe.

Then we might do rather well in the Uefa cup this year, and even have a chance in the FA Cup.

I think what our team really needs is controlling midfilder , a good striker who can together play really well with robinho.I have a list of people who i think is very suitable for the team, so i think should be considering of my ideas.

Can have a considering of players below :

Striker : Banzema, santa cruz, Sergio Aguero (Atlético Madrid ) , Freddy Adu
Centre midfilder : Here comes a good pair - a strong centre : Either João Moutinho and Anderson ( man utd) or Senna and Aretea.. Also Muntari is a really good player as well

For the winger can be either David silva (valencia) or Bastian Schweinsteiger

Defender :
Campell (portsmouth), Eboue (Aresnal), (lahm), Lescott (everton), PePe (real madrid), Glen johnson(portsmouth)

This footballer should be considerate for the team

Player to sell or loan :

Vassel, Michael Ball, Elano, Benjani, Castillo..

Player who should remain staying :
Jo ( a quality player, haven't had enough experience yet, can be laon, but should keep, he's too young, can be great footballer)

Sturridge and Evans ( get them on to get more experience, good sorcer, great player)

Caicedo ( valuable player and a legend as well)
