"George should go cap in hand and get Boyd because we don't have the luxury of top strikers"

Frank McAvennie

Now I know Frankie isnt exactly your most respected commentator on delicate football management matters but it is still interesting to hear a more balanced view from a celtic man. That is as opposed to the usual " Boyds a traitor, he should never be allowed near a dark blue scotland jersey again" etc that we get on here.

At the time of the Norway match, Boyd wasn't even getting games for Rangers. Burley said he needed to prove himself at club level (something Smith evidently agreed with at the time) - and now that Smith is playing Boyd with Miller up front, Boyd has done just that.

Miller and Boyd complement each other well and Burley would no doubt have Boyd back on his first-choice teamsheet except that, er, Boyd petulantly ruled himself out in the heat of the moment.

IMO Boyd needs to make the first step here, not Burley. Burley might be a disappointing manager but he is still the manager until the SFA decides otherwise. Boyd ruled himself out, so if Boyd wants to play for Burley's Scotland team, Boyd needs to step forward, apologise, and say "I was wrong, but I've done what you asked - now pick me for Scotland."

Quatarbhoy,

I agree with what you are saying here, Boyd was petulant and could have handled things better and it is now up to him to make the first move to come back into the fold. It would be weak management and send out the wrong signals if Burley came calling for him, IMO.

It should also be noted that Boyd has never said he will never play for Scotland again, he just wont play under Burley so he has not turned his back on his country, you cant have it both ways ok

What really irks me though is certain Celtic fans calling him a traitor and saying he turned his back on his country of birth and yet these same fans will defend Aiden McGeady for turning his back on the country of his birth.

In my eyes there is not any difference here, they either both have the choice to play for who they want to or they have both turned their backs on their country.

The difference is mcgeady being chased by ireland for a long time where as scotland only came calling when he had played a load of games for celtic that is the difference. Boyd is a traitor. time to admit it curlyheid

there is no difference, if this is a difference then just how many games do you play for a club before you can legitimately turn your back on your country of birth? 5, 10, 15, 50??

How many times did Tosh McInlay play for Celtic before winning his first cap?

What a nonsensical arguement to put up!

Take off the green tinted specs ok

I don't agree with Frank McAvennie. However, I do think that Boyd is a class act. Both men will have to swallow their pride and do what is right for their country; no shame in that.
Powerful men have powerful emotions but pride can undo the best of us.

ok the difference is when mcgeady was younger ireland had him playing for there under 15s right the way up so if he turned them down when asked to play first the senior team would he not have been a traitor towards them? kris boyd has no other country to have an option with yet he wasnt getting a game with rangers at the time so why should he pay infront of players playing for there clubs? boyd isnt the fittest of guys in the world so why play someone who wouldnt be fit or match fit? take your blue tinted specs off. in my view i wouldnt want either mcgeady or boyd to play for us if they dont want to play for scotland then i dont want them to play again.

In a word no, you can only be a traitor against your own country, disappointing for Ireland but treachorous - no!

I actually tend to agree on your other points about Boyd but as I said earlier I get hacked off at Celtic fans labelling Boyd a traitor yet fawning over McGeady when he has also let his country, and more recently his club, down ok

On the 27th of December Boyd will show why he is the biggest talking point in scottish football at present when he sticks it past Celtic to move The Gers to within a point. Disagree with his decision or not he is the best striker we have and we should be trying to get our best players to repeat that for the National side. Come on Boydy !!!!!!!biggrin

forget all the nonsense and get boyd back asap.
the players that played instead of him last time have much less to offer. boyd and miller will at least cause aggro with any of our rivals and are the best option right now...with mc fadden behind them.

why aqre we so concerned with McGeady, for a forward player he's never scored for ireland in 20 odd appearances. they can have him.

TRAITOR
